						Heartland offering 
						training for alcohol sellers and servers at no cost

		NORMAL 
		- With the assistance of the Bloomington Normal Community Campus 
		Committee and available grant funding, the Community Education 
		Department at Heartland is offering STEPS (Safety Training to Encourage 
		Profitable Services) classes at no cost during May for sellers and 
		servers of alcohol. The training is part of BASSET (Beverage Alcohol 
		Sellers and Servers Education and Training), an approved program of the 
		Illinois Liquor Control Commission.

			 The class focuses on educating alcohol sellers and servers on a 
			variety of topics including: 
			- Physical and psychological effects of alcohol
 
			- Ways to discourage over consumption
 
			- How to properly check identification cards
 
			- Local and state laws regarding alcohol service
 
			 
			Community Education Coordinator, Lauren Bruggenthies-Lott, said 
			the class is about operating a safe business and promoting 
			responsible drinking. People dont always know what they are 
			responsible for when they sell liquor, she said. Its all about 
			educating and training liquor license holders how to engage in 
			responsible service. 
			 
			Students who complete the class receive a certificate and official 
			BASSET identification card from the Illinois Liquor Control 
			Commission, which is valid for three years.
