Logan County Recipients of Zonta Club Scholarships

[July 31, 2015]  LINCOLN - The Zonta Club of Lincoln recently awarded Ms. Hannah Riedle of Mt. Pulaski a Women’s Career Scholarship. Hannah is the daughter of Mike and Jennifer Riedle of Mt. Pulaski, Illinois. The $1,000 scholarship was presented by Zonta member Barbara Maske during the Mt. Pulaski High School Honor night on Thursday, May 14th. Hannah will be attending the University of Illinois at Champaign this coming fall and will major in Crop Sciences with an emphasis on Agriculture Education and Agriculture Communications; her future goals include working with a local seed company.

Other 2015 Zonta Club Scholarship Recipients include Ms. Meg Meeker who was awarded a $500 Women's Career Scholarship. Meg graduated from Hartsburg-Emden High School in May and plans to attend Heartland Community College in the fall. Her career goal is to be a High School Agriculture teacher and an FFA Advisor. Christel Huff presented the award at the Hartsburg-Emden Honors Program and Graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 16th.

Sylvia Klumpp also received a $500 Women's Career Scholarship. Sylvia is currently a student at the University of Illinois at Springfield and will be starting her Junior year in the Fall. Her professional goal is to become a forensic scientist with the State Police. This is the third scholarship Sylvia has received from Zonta Club of Lincoln.

Lastly, Naomi N. Bailey was presented with a $500 Young Women in Public Affairs Scholarship at the Awards Ceremony at Lincoln Community High School on Sunday, May 17th by Christel Huff. Naomi will be attending Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville in the fall and studying to be a Pharmacist. Her application was also submitted to Zonta International for consideration at the next level.

The scholarship committee for this year was chaired by Caroline Kiest, with club members Chris Huff, Melissa Cox, Pattie Quint, Tina Huff, and Jean Ann Miller participating in the interviews and selection of scholarship recipients.
