Ian Kinsler hit a game-winning, two-run homer in the bottom of the
ninth inning while designated hitter Victor Martinez blasted two
home runs and drove in five runs to lead the Detroit Tigers to an
8-6 victory over the Kansas City Royals.
Kinsler ripped a 2-0 pitch from Ryan Madson (1-2) over the
left-field wall after shortstop Jose Iglesias led off the inning
with a single.
Martinez hit a three-run homer in the third and a two-run blast in
the fifth.

Dodgers 10, Phillies 8
Zack Greinke suffered his worst start of the season, but the Los
Angeles Dodgers had his back in beating the Philadelphia Phillies.
Greinke (11-2), who entered with a major-league-best 1.41 ERA
surrendered a season-high six runs, five of which came in the first
inning.
The first-place Dodgers (62-46) countered with 15 hits to improve to
a season-best 16 games over .500.

Cardinals 3, Reds 0
Michael Wacha pitched seven shutout innings while second baseman
Kolten Wong delivered a two-run single in the fifth, lifting the St.
Louis Cardinals to a 3-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
The start of the game was delayed one hour and eight minutes by
rain.
Wacha (13-4) allowed four hits and two walks and had six strikeouts.

Brewers 10, Padres 1
Khris Davis hit two home runs in a 10-1 victory over the San Diego
Padres.
Matt Garza (6-12) pitched seven innings and allowed only a solo
homer by center fielder Melvin Upton Jr., and two hits.
He walked two and struck out five in his longest start since going
seven innings on June 6 at Minnesota.

Nationals 8, Diamondbacks 3
Joe Ross continued his impressive rookie season by allowing one run
in six innings while Wilson Ramos had two hits and two RBIs as the
Washington Nationals beat the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Ross (3-3), making his seventh career start, gave up five hits and
no walks with seven strikeouts.
The Nationals (56-51) are now 1-1/2 games behind the National League
East-leading New York Mets, who are not playing on Thursday.

Blue Jays 9, Twins 3
Edwin Encarnacion homered, doubled twice and had four RBIs while
Mark Buehrle pitched seven innings as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated
the Minnesota Twins.
Left fielder Ben Revere added three hits and three runs for the Blue
Jays (58-52), who won their fifth successive game in completing a
four-game sweep of the Twins.
Trevor Plouffe hit a two-run homer and Aaron Hicks added a solo shot
for the Twins.
Buehrle (12-5) allowed five hits, one walk and three runs while
striking out one.

Yankees 2, Red Sox 1
Center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury hit a home run in the seventh inning
to lift the New York Yankees to a 2-1 victory over the Boston Red
Sox.
Ellsbury began the game in a 3-for-23 slump and went hitless in his
first two at-bats against Boston left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez.
After singling off Rodriguez in the fifth, Ellsbury drove a 2-1
slider into the second deck in right field with one out in the
seventh for his fifth home run of the season.
Designated hitter Alex Rodriguez added an RBI double for New York.

Braves 9, Marlins 8
Left fielder Eury Perez dropped a two-out single into shallow left
field to drive in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning as the
Atlanta Braves beat the Miami Marlins.
With shortstop Daniel Castro at third base, Perez lobbed a pitch
from Bryan Morris (3-3) just in front of a diving effort by left
fielder Derek Dietrich.
Rookie Arodys Vizcaino then pitched a scoreless ninth inning to
record his first career save.

Cubs 5, Giants 4
Catcher Kyle Schwarber's first career Wrigley Field home run helped
lift the Chicago Cubs to an early lead on the way to a 5-4 victory
over the San Francisco Giants.
Schwarber went 1-for-3, walked, scored twice and collected three
RBIs as the Cubs (59-48) leapfrogged the Giants (59-49) by half a
game in a chase for the second National League wild-card playoff
spot.
Chicago led 5-0 after two innings, but two-run homers by San
Francisco first baseman Brandon Belt and shortstop Brandon Crawford
sliced the margin to one before the Cubs' bullpen blanked San
Francisco over the final three innings.

Astros 5, A's 4 (10 innings)
Jed Lowrie hit an RBI double with two outs in the 10th inning to
lead the Houston Astros to a 5-4 win over the Oakland A's.
Houston's rookie shortstop Carlos Correa went 2-for-4 with a two-run
homer, his 14th blast of the season.
Third baseman Brett Lawrie and catcher Stephen Vogt hit solo home
runs for the A's.
