Fernandez, who was removed from Friday's game complaining of pain in
his arm, has a right biceps strain, according to the Miami Herald.
He is likely to be sidelined for a few weeks, and there is no
timetable for his return.
The Marlins may decide to shut down the 23-year-old Fernandez for
the remainder of the season. However, the good news is that there
was no damage to his surgically repaired elbow or to his shoulder.
Fernandez returned last month after having Tommy John elbow surgery
in 2014. He is 4-0 with a 2.30 ERA in seven starts this season.

Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz said he will return to
the team next season after reaching a vesting clause in his
contract.
Ortiz met the requirement with his 425th plate appearance this
season on his first at-bat against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday,
guaranteeing a base salary of $11 million in 2016.
Ortiz is hitting .247 with 65 RBIs this season.

New York Mets third baseman David Wright, sidelined since April due
to a back issue, will begin his rehab assignment Monday.
The Mets captain will be the designated hitter Monday and play third
base Tuesday with Class A St. Lucie, according to ESPN.com.

Triple-A Omaha and optioned infielder Cheslor Cuthbert to the Storm
Chasers.
This is Orlando's third stint this season with the big-league club.

The Washington Nationals voided the option of right-hander Aaron
Barrett and placed him on the 15-day disabled list with a right
elbow sprain, retroactive to Thursday.
Barrett had been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday. He is
3-3 with a 4.60 ERA in 40 games out of the bullpen for Washington.

Infielder Cliff Pennington was added to the Toronto Blue Jays'
roster, becoming the sixth player to join the team in a trade since
July 27.
Pennington was obtained during Saturday's game and is expected to
see time at second base and occasionally shortstop. To get
Pennington on the roster, Toronto optioned infielder Munenori
Kawasaki to Triple-A Buffalo.
