The Seattle right-hander needed 116 pitches to beat the Baltimore
Orioles 3-0, with three walks standing in his way of a perfect game.
Iwakuma (4-2) got his signature defensive play from Kyle Seager, who
made an over-the-shoulder catch near the wall in foul territory for
the first out of the ninth inning. After that, Iwakuma got a
groundout and flyout to finish off the five-pitch ninth.
Iwakuma threw the fourth no-hitter of the season and the fifth in
Mariners history.
The Mariners jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Franklin Gutierrez's RBI
double and Robinson Cano's RBI single in the third. Jesus Sucre
added an RBI single in the fourth.
Dodgers 3, Nationals 0
LOS ANGELES -- Clayton Kershaw threw eight shutout innings and
struck out eight to lead Los Angeles past Washington.
Kershaw retired the first 16 batters he faced before Michael Taylor
smacked a one-out double off the wall in center in the sixth inning
to end the left-hander's perfect game. Kershaw, who had his
37-inning scoreless streak snapped in his last start against
Pittsburgh last Friday, topped 200 strikeouts for the sixth straight
year, tying the franchise mark of Sandy Koufax.
Kershaw blanked Washington for the second time in a row. He held the
Nationals scoreless for eight innings on a three-hitter with 14
strikeouts on July 18 in a 4-2 Los Angeles win. Kershaw is 9-2 in 13
career games against the Nationals.
Carl Crawford's RBI single to left brought home Joc Pederson, who
walked and reached second on a fielder's choice, for a 1-0 Los
Angeles lead with two outs in the third. The Dodgers added two runs
in the eighth. After Pederson was hit by a pitch, pinch-hitter Andre
Ethier doubled to right, advancing Pederson to third. He scored when
Anthony Rendon's relay throw bounced into the stands.
Blue Jays 10, Athletics 3
TORONTO -- Chris Colabello and Justin Smoak each hit three-run
homers, R.A. Dickey pitched six innings and Toronto extended its
winning streak to 10 games.
Colabello finished with two hits and four RBIs for the surging Blue
Jays. Dickey allowed six hits, two walks and three runs while
striking out four in his fourth straight win.
Danny Valencia homered for the Athletics.
Cubs 3, Brewers 2 (10 innings)
CHICAGO -- Miguel Montero slammed an 0-1 pitch to left for the
winning home run in the 10th inning for Chicago's 11th walk-off win
of the season.
The solo homer -- on a 0-1 pitch off Michael Blazek -- was Montero's
11th of the season and second career walk-off. The Cubs collected
their sixth straight win and 12th in 13 games as they claimed a
series win and improved to a season-high 16 games above .500.
Astros 2, Giants 0
SAN FRANCISCO -- Colby Rasmus and Jed Lowrie belted home runs to
complement the five-hit pitching of Scott Feldman and four
relievers, giving Houston a series split with San Francisco.
Rasmus broke a scoreless tie with his 15th home run of the season
leading off the seventh. Lowrie connected with two outs in the
eighth to complete the scoring. The homers were the 157th and 158th
of the season for the Astros, who lead the majors in home runs.
Indians 2, Yankees 1
CLEVELAND -- Danny Salazar and Cody Allen combined on a four-hitter
and New York's offensive woes continued as Cleveland beat the
Yankees.
It's the fifth loss in a row for the Yankees, who have only scored
six runs in the five games. The Indians have won four in a row.
Salazar pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing one run and four hits. With
runners at first and second, Allen entered the game and got Alex
Rodriguez to ground into an inning-ending double play. Allen pitched
the ninth to pick up his 23rd save.
The Indians tied it in the fifth and went ahead in the sixth when
Carlos Santana led off with a single, went to second on a single by
Jerry Sands and scored when Abraham Almonte lined a single to
center.
Mets 3, Rockies 0
NEW YORK -- Jacob deGrom threw seven shutout innings and combined
with two relievers on a three-hitter as New York beat Colorado.
Juan Uribe and Michael Cuddyer delivered back-to-back, two-out RBI
hits in the fourth inning for the Mets, who won their third straight
and tied a season high by moving 10 games above .500.
DeGrom was not at his best -- he walked four, as many walks as he
issued in his last five starts combined -- but allowed just two hits
and struck out 10 as he lowered his ERA to 2.02, the second-best
mark in baseball behind Zack Greinke (1.65).

batters after serving up a three-run homer to Matt Kemp in the first
inning as Cincinnati avoided a three-game series sweep.

the Reds. He scored three runs and stole a base. Jay Bruce added a
two-run triple for Cincinnati.

and didn't permit a baserunner after the first inning.
Phillies 7, Diamondbacks 6
PHOENIX -- Cameron Rupp homered and drove in four runs and rookie
Aaron Nola won his third game to lead Philadelphia over Arizona.
Rupp's three-run homer off Keith Hessler capped a four-run sixth
inning for the Phillies, who had been outscored 26-4 in the previous
two games of the series. Rupp also had a sacrifice fly in the
second.
Andres Blanco homered and singled, one of five Phillies with two
hits. Arizona's Paul Goldschmidt had three hits and a walk,
finishing a homer short of the cycle, and drove in two runs and
scored two to improve his National League-leading batting average to
.341.
Marlins 14, Red Sox 6
MIAMI -- J.T. Realmuto had a grand slam, a triple, a single and six
RBIs to lead Miami over Boston.

tie and led to a three-run inning. His single in the sixth broke a
4-4 tie and led to a 10-run inning. Realmuto also had his first
career grand slam in the sixth and set a Marlins record with five
RBIs in one inning.
Miami opened the scoring with Dee Gordon's first-inning homer.
Boston tied the score 1-1 when David Ortiz led off the second by
pulling an upper-deck homer to right. Ortiz added a two-run homer in
the seventh.
Cardinals 4, Pirates 2
ST. LOUIS -- A rare Yadier Molina triple, aided by the last of a
spate of defensive misplays by Pittsburgh, enabled St. Louis to
clinch a series win against their closest National League Central
pursuer.
Molina's one-out run-scoring three-bagger in the bottom of the sixth
inning snapped a tie. Right fielder Gregory Polanco tried for an
ankle-high catch on Molina's liner but missed as the ball rolled
past him and to the wall, scoring center fielder Randal Grichuk. It
was just the fifth triple of Molina's 12-year big league career, but
his second in three weeks.
Twins 11, Rangers 1
MINNEAPOLIS -- Miguel Sano cracked two homers and drove in six runs
and center fielder Aaron Hicks tied a career high with four hits as
Minnesota pounded out 17 hits against Texas.

for Minnesota starter Mike Pelfrey, who allowed one run, four hits
and a walk in seven innings, picking up his first win since June 6
against Milwaukee.
Tigers 7, Royals 4
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- J.D. Martinez singled home the go-ahead run in
the eighth inning as Detroit came from behind to beat Kansas City.
The Tigers sent 10 men to the plate in the four-run eighth. Ian
Kinsler hit a two-run double for the big blow. He scored the final
run of the inning on Tyler Collins fielder's choice grounder.
The Tigers padded their lead in the ninth when Victor Martinez
doubled to score Kinsler.
White Sox 3, Angels 2 (13 innings)
CHICAGO -- They did it the hard way, but the Chicago White Sox found
a way to complete a sweep of Los Angeles in a three-game series with
a win in 13 innings at U.S. Cellular Field.
Avisail Garcia lined a double to the gap in left-center field off
Cesar Ramos with one out in the bottom of the 13th and Jose Abreu
scored the winning run all the way from first to end it.
Ramos took the loss. Matt Albers, Chicago's seventh pitcher of the
game, got the win after throwing two scoreless innings.
