[August 13, 2015]  LINCOLN - Melvin F. “Buck” Snyder, 86, of Lincoln passed away at 7:47 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2015 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln.

Visitation:  From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 11 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.

Service: Wednesday, August 12, at 10 a.m. at Lincoln Christian Church

Melvin F. “Buck” Snyder, 86, of Lincoln passed away at 7:47 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2015 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln.

Buck was born October 19, 1928 to Ella M. and Adam J. Snyder, R. R. # 4 – Straight Row Community, Lincoln, Illinois. He was the fourth child of eight Snyders. He attended Straight Row Grade School and graduated from Lincoln Community High School with the class of 1946. He worked for several farmers in the neighborhood and entered the Army in 1951. He served until 1953, during which time he was stationed in Fuji, Japan. When he came home he was employed by Rocky Ford Limestone Co. as office manager, a position he held for 38 years until retirement. Following retirement, he worked at Christian Village. For the past 17 years he was employed as morning maintenance man at the Lincoln IGA Store.

Buck married Lois Tucker June 19, 1955 and his family consists of Keith (Beth) Snyder of Lincoln and Sara (Aaron) McCain of Cornland. One son, Kent, is deceased. He has three granddaughters, Hannah Snyder of Chicago, Hayley Grover of Colorado Springs, CO, and Molly McCain of St. Louis, MO. One sister, Patricia Snyder of Lincoln, and two brothers, Kenneth “Dutch” Snyder of Lincoln and Clarence “Tony” Snyder of Mountain Home, Arkansas, survive.

Mr. Snyder served many years as deacon, elder and youth sponsor at Lincoln Christian Church. He served on the Harvest of Talents planning team for 25 years and was affectionately called “The Can Man” because he was recycling chairman for Harvest of Talents. He served on the board of International Disaster Emergency Services of Noblesville, IN for 16 years, and he was a West Lincoln Township Board Trustee for 12 years.

Services will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Lincoln Christian Church with Tim Searby officiating. Burial will be in Lucas Chapel Cemetery with full military rites accorded by Lincoln American Legion Post #263. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 11 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln. Memorials may be made to Harvest of Talents, Lincoln Christian Church.
