Mitchell suffered a small nasal fracture after he was struck in the
face by a line drive off the bat of ex-Yankee Eduardo Nunez on
Monday night.
He remained under observation Tuesday.
The Yankees recalled left-hander Chris Capuano from Triple-A
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take Mitchell's spot on the roster.
On an 0-2 pitch in the game against Minnesota, Nunez hit a hard line
drive and Mitchell had no time to react. The ball appeared to strike
Mitchell on the right side of his face. He immediately fell to the
ground and was bleeding as trainers attended to him.
Mitchell's injury left players shocked and frightened.
"I was very scared," Nunez told nj.com. "I don't even know what I
think. As soon as I saw him on the mound bleeding, I was so scared,
you know. I was very sad for him."

Philadelphia third baseman Maikal Franco has given the Phillies
reasons to be optimistic during a dreadful season.
Now, it looks like Franco's season might be coming to a premature
end. The rookie is headed for a stint on the disabled list with what
team officials are calling a "small nondisplaced fracture" of his
left wrist.
This has been a breakout year for the 22-year-old. In 77 games, he
has compiled a .277 batting average with 13 homers and 22 doubles.
He has driven in 48 runs.

It had been widely speculated recently that the Philadelphia
Phillies would trade second baseman Chase Utley to a contending team
soon. But general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. put the brakes on that
speculation.
Amaro said Utley "is likely to be with the Phillies for the rest of
the year."
Utley, a six-time All-Star, has been hot at the plate since coming
off the disabled list. He is hitting .500 (13-for-26) with one homer
and five doubles since rejoining the team.
