Fiers (6-9), acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers on July 30 at the
non-waiver trade deadline, recorded his first career complete game
in his fourth appearance (third start) with the Astros.
He issued three walks and needed a career-high 134 pitches to finish
what he started, surpassing his previous high of 113 with a called
third strike on second baseman Enrique Hernandez for the second out
in the eighth inning.
Fiers retired the final 21 Dodgers' batters he faced, getting a pair
of deep fly outs from shortstop Jimmy Rollins and designated hitter
Chase Utley to open the ninth before striking out third baseman
Justin Turner. Fiers finished with 10 strikeouts.
Mets 14, Rockies 9
DENVER -- Yoenis Cespedes hit three home runs, and New York blew an
early six-run lead before rebounding to beat Colorado.
Cespedes went 5-for-6, adding a double, seven RBIs and five runs as
the Mets defeated the Rockies for the ninth consecutive time.
The center fielder tied a franchise record with his three homers and
set career highs in homers, hits, RBIs and runs. Cespedes hit a
grand slam in the second inning and a solo shot in the fourth. His
two-run homer in the sixth gave the Mets a 10-8 lead after the
Rockies fought back from a 7-1 deficit to tie the score 8-8.
Red Sox 7, Royals 2
BOSTON -- Rookie Henry Owens pitched eight solid innings, Josh
Rutledge hit a two-run homer, and Boston handed Johnny Cueto his
worst start since he was picked up by Kansas City.
Blake Swihart had four hits and drove in two runs, and Mookie Betts
had a double and two singles for the Red Sox, who improved to 10-2
against the Royals in the last two seasons.

runs (one earned) and four hits, walking one and striking out four.
Twins 4, Orioles 3
BALTIMORE -- Kurt Suzuki delivered a go-ahead, two-run single in the
eighth inning to lead Minnesota past Baltimore.
Minnesota won the first two games of the four-game series and evened
its record at .500 (61-61). After a four-game winning streak, the
Orioles have lost three of four and remain just outside of the
playoff picture.
Rookies Miguel Sano and rookie Byron Buxton each had two hits for
Minnesota. Casey Fien (3-5) picked up the win with 1 2/3 scoreless
innings. Trevor May pitched a perfect eighth, and Kevin Jepsen
closed out the ninth for his sixth save and first for Minnesota.

bullpen that logged seven innings in Thursday night's win. He
allowed seven hits and a walk while striking out six. He also
collected two hits.
Rangers 2, Tigers 0
DETROIT -- Veteran Colby Lewis shut out Detroit on six hits over
seven innings, and Texas' bullpen made two early runs stand up.
Lewis (14-5) equaled his single-season high for wins, previously set
in 2011. He was helped by three double plays and a challenge that
took a Detroit run off the scoreboard, but he walked just one batter
while striking out two.
Right-hander Keone Kela pitched a perfect eighth for Texas, and
right-hander Shawn Tolleson closed it out by striking out three for
his 24th save.
Giants 6, Pirates 4
PITTSBURGH -- Marlon Byrd had three hits, including a home run, in
his debut for San Francisco, and Madison Bumgarner won his 15th game
and hit his fifth homer of the season.

first inning. He also doubled while going 3-for-5 after going just
5-for-33 in his last 10 games with the Reds, who dealt him to the
Giants on Thursday.

innings, leading Cleveland to a victory over New York.
Carrasco (12-9) extended his scoreless innings streak at Yankee
Stadium to 15 2/3 innings before allowing a two-out single to rookie
Greg Bird in the fourth. It was one of few mistakes he made all
night. He gave up five hits, one walk and one run while improving to
8-3 in 13 road games this season.
Cleveland's Michael Brantley had a pair of RBI singles, and Carlos
Santana homered and added a run-scoring groundout.
Phillies 7, Marlins 1
MIAMI -- Jerad Eickhoff prevailed in his major league debut, tossing
six scoreless innings and hitting a two-run single to lead
Philadelphia past Miami.
Eickhoff, acquired from the Texas Rangers as part of the Cole Hamels
trade last month, allowed just five hits and one walk while striking
out five.
Ryan Howard had three doubles and two RBIs for the Phillies.
Cubs 5, Braves 3
CHICAGO -- Miguel Montero went 2-for-4 and doubled in the go-ahead
run as Chicago beat Atlanta.
Montero's sixth-inning double to deep right drove in Kris Bryant as
the Cubs scored twice to overtake Atlanta for their 27th
come-from-behind victory this season.

Rondon put two runners on in the ninth but none scored en route to

a blowut win.
Sale recorded his 12th double-digit strikeout game of the season,
and the 30th of his career. His 29 strikeouts in back-to-back starts
are a career high.
He easily outdueled Seattle starter Felix Hernandez, who struggled
for the fourth time in five starts. Sale (12-7) allowed three runs,
all of them coming on a Mark Trumbo homer in the seventh, on four
hits and one walk over seven innings.

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Drew Smyly pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings, and

threw 91 pitches in his second start since returning from a torn
labrum in his pitching shoulder. He won for the first time since
Aug. 27, 2014 at Baltimore, a span of 358 days, although injuries
limited him to six starts during that stretch.
Jennings lined an RBI single in the second off Chris Bassitt (1-5).
He crushed a solo home run, his first blast of the year, in the
eighth off Evan Scribner.
Blue Jays 9, Angels 2
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- David Price gave up two runs on six hits in eight
innings, leading Toronto to a win over Los Angeles.
The game was over almost from the start, when the Blue Jays scored
three runs in the first inning against Hector Santiago (7-7). Price
didn't allow a hit until the fifth.
Price improved to 12-4 this season, including 3-0 in four starts
since joining the Blue Jays in a July 30 trade with Detroit. He

first time in five starts.

(10-8) pitched six innings and gave up five runs (four earned) on
nine hits.
