[August 24, 2015]  ATLANTA - Paul A. Adams, 99, of Atlanta passed away on Thursday evening , August 20, 2015 at his home.

Visitation: Tuesday, August 25, 2015 from 5 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Quiram Peasley Funeral Home.

Service: Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. the Eminence Christian Church in rural Atlanta.

Obituary

Paul Augusta Adams, 99, of Atlanta passed away at his home on Thursday, August 20, 2015.

Visitaiton for Mr. Adams will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Quiram Peasley Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. the Eminence Christian Church in rural Atlanta.

Burial will be private family only.

Paul, son of Augusta Earl and Alice Bevan Adams, was born on May 28, 1916 at the family farmstead outside of Atlanta, Il. where he spent the first 57 years of his life. Paul was the fourth generation of Adams to live on the family farm.

Paul attended Atlatna High School graduating in 1934, earning a Bachelor's of Science from the University of Illinois., College of Agriculture in 1938., HIs farming career started in 1938 with his father, was interrupted from 1942 to 1945 to serve as a medical technician in the Pacific during WWII. On August 11, 1946, Paul married Marian Maxine Ioder. Paul is survived by his wife, his son: John Richard Adams, his daughter-in-law, Susan Weil Adams, and his daughter Carolyn Jean Adams, his son-in-law John Forsythe Meigs, and eight nieces and nephews.

Besides his abiding love of his family, Paul enjoyed serving his community. He served 15 years on the Atlanta Community School Board (10 as President) . Memberships in some of his primary organizations include: Eminence Christian Church, 12 years on the Logan Country Farm Service Boardand Logan Country Farmland Review Committee.

Paul was an active member of the Atlanta Rotary Club (attending up to his 99th birthday.and he served as a secretary of Rotary District 649 in 1994. Paul served on the Atlanta City Council for over 12 years. The Lincoln Courier recognized Paul's service to the community in 1995 by naming him as the Courier's Citizen of the Year.

Paul enjoyed a lifelong connection to music by playing the trumpet when he was younger and then a baritone horn in his older years. He was a member Atlanta HIgh School Band, Logan County Farm Bureau Band, the Football band at the University of Illinois, and the Army Band. In 2013, he retired from the Atlanta Community Band.

Working with his sister, Norma Price, Paul authored two historical books on Atlanta, a history of the Walnut Row School, and an anniversary booklet on the Atlatna High School. Paul was a member of Friends of Historic Atlanta, A-Team, and the Atlanta Historic Committee and served as a long term decont at the Atlanta Library and Museum.

The Adams family wishes to thank caregiver Florence (Buni) Smith for her loving care and dedication to keeping Paul at home until his death.

Memorials may be made to either J.H. Hawes Elevator or Endow Atlanta.
