Loney made contact with home-plate umpire Paul Nauert after a called
third strike.
Loney was to serve the suspension on Tuesday night when the Rays
play the Minnesota Twins, but he appealed the ruling and the penalty
will be delayed until he receives a hearing.

Former major league pitcher and broadcaster Curt Schilling was
removed from ESPN's telecasts of the Little League World Series
because of a controversial post on Twitter.
Schilling's tweet, which was quickly taken down, was part of a
graphic that read: "It's said only 5-10% of Muslims are extremists.
In 1940, only 7% of Germans were Nazis. How'd that go?"

The Los Angeles Angels placed second baseman Johnny Giavotella on
the disabled list with a "personal medical condition" and recalled
right-hander Drew Ricinski to fill the vacant roster spot.
Giavotella is expected to miss at least two weeks because of the
undisclosed problem. He has started 114 of 124 games at second base
for the Angels this season.

Washington Nationals center fielder Denard Span came off the
disabled list, and his return means the Nationals have their planned
Opening Day starting lineup available for the first time this
season.
Span missed the past six weeks with a lower-back injury. He is
batting .304 with five homers and 11 stolen bases in 54 games this
season. Span hit .302 with 31 stolen bases a year ago.
