 For the 19th consecutive year, Decatur says farewell
to summer with a free concert on the lakeshore by the
Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra (MDSO), under the direction of
Dr. Michael Luxner, music director and conductor of the
Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra.
The hour-long concert begins at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 7, at
Decatur's Nelson Park Amphitheater. The program comprises light
classical, patriotic, and popular arrangements suitable to every
musical taste.
Musical selections for this year's performance include: Sousa's "El
Capitan," Rossini's "William Tell Overture," Sibelius' "Finlandia,"
Dvorak's "Slavonic Dance," Copland's "Variations on a Shaker
Melody," Gershwin's "Highlights from Porgy & Bess," "My One and Only
Love," arranged by Randall Reyman, Millikin University professor of
music, "A Salute to the Big Bands," arranged by Calvin Custer, and
"Armed Forces Salute," arranged by Bob Lowden.
Randall Reyman will be the trumpet soloist on his arrangement of "My
One and Only Love."
"We've got all types of wonderful music to share with the community
and are looking forward to another great installment in this
favorite Decatur family tradition," said Dr. Luxner.

If inclement weather occurs, the performance will be moved to the pavilion just
up the hill from the amphitheater.
Concerts of the Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra are partially supported by a
grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
