recalled infielder Wilfred Tovar from Triple-A Las Vegas and placed

Boston Red Sox manager Torey Lovullo said right-hander Jean Machi is
the team's new closer. Junichi Tazawa, who was injured beginning a
double play Friday night, will return to eighth-inning duties.

could miss the rest of the season because of continuing problems in
his degenerative hip. He hasn't pitched since June 27.

Kansas City Royals right fielder Alex Rios, who was removed from the

Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander A.J. Burnett had a 71-pitch bullpen
session Sunday and is hopeful of returning from the disabled list
sometime from Sept. 15-17 when the Pirates play a four-game home
series against the Chicago Cubs. Burnett has been on the disabled
list since July 31 with a strained flexor tendon in his right elbow.

Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa missed his fourth consecutive
game with a left hamstring injury. Correa said he should be ready to
return this week when Houston opens a three-game series at home
against the Seattle Mariners.

Texas Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor was out of the starting
for a fifth straight game because of a sore fingernail on his right
middle finger.
