Warrensburg-Latham fans are pretty pumped about this season as the
team is loaded with talent and Coach Victor Binkley's squad boasts
several seniors. Mount Pulaski knew going in this was going to be a
tough test and indeed it was.
The Cardinals were running and gunning and jumped out to a quick
10-0 lead. Brett Huff finally got the Toppers in the scoring column
with a soft jumper in the lane at the 3:36 mark. But the Cardinals
press was a little too much for the Toppers to handle and the first
quarter was full of turnovers by Mount Pulaski. The Cardinals never
let up on offense either. Weston Nottelman put the exclamation mark
on the quarter with his powerful slam dunk that nearly brought the
house down and gave the Cardinals a commanding 19-2 lead.
Finally the Toppers got another bucket on a bank shot in the lane by
Peyton Taylor, 19-4 now the Cardinals lead. The crowd wanted more
though and one of the smaller guys on the court gave the fans what
they wanted. Collin Swallow drained consecutive threes near the end
of the first quarter and the red, white and gold fans loved it.
Coach Binkley's team had just put on an impressive show and led the
Toppers 25-4 after one quarter of play.
Warrensburg-Latham continued to dominate in the second quarter,
outscoring the Toppers 19-11. The Toppers had to rely on free throws
for 7 of those points although they did manage to get buckets from
Will Stewart and Dalton Litterly in the quarter. The Cardinals
meanwhile showed their athletic ability with a performance that
included Tyler Bond's sweet reverse layup and a beautiful bank shot
off the alley-oop by Nottelman. At the half Warrensburg-Latham was
up 44-15 and the Toppers quietly walked to the locker room.
The Toppers remained quiet in the third quarter only getting baskets
from G Oliver and Huff, while the Cardinals toned it down a bit as
well and just put up 13 points.
With a 57-19 lead going into the final quarter it was already
obvious to everyone in the gym who was going to win, now just the
formality of playing the final eight minutes existed.
Warrensburg-Latham went to their bench in the fourth quarter and
this allowed Mount Pulaski a chance to outscore the Cardinals,
16-11. Huff led the way with a couple threes here and Stewart also
chipped in a couple buckets. Caleb Przykopanski came off the bench
to drain a three as well.

Finally the Cardinals just dribbled and passed the ball for a while
until the buzzer sounded and the 68-35 win was in the books.
Mount Pulaski falls to an even 3-3 with the loss and
Warrensburg-Latham improves to 2-0.
Mount Pulaski's next game is at home Friday night versus Cerro
Gordo. Game time is 6 p.m. for the junior varsity and 7:30 p.m. for
