NHL roundup: Wild edge past Blackhawks

 CHICAGO -- Ryan Suter scored the game-winning goal at 12:04 of the third period to lift the Minnesota Wild to a 2-1 road victory over the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center on Tuesday.

Suter stuffed the puck into the net after the Blackhawks' Corey Crawford had made an initial save on Mikael Granlund.

The Wild (12-7-4) came into the game searching for a positive road result. They had lost six of their previous seven games and were on a three-game road losing streak. Their last road win came on Nov. 19.

Patrick Kane's goal was the only one to beat the Wild's Devan Dubnyk. Kane extended his career-high points streak to 20 games, the first player in the last five years to record a 20-game points streak, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

Jason Pominville also scored for the Wild.

Flyers 4, Senators 2

OTTAWA -- Philadelphia extended its winning streak to three games by defeating Ottawa at Canadian Tire Centre.

Wayne Simmonds scored the winner late in the second period, and Sean Couturier iced it with an empty-netter 1:45 from the final buzzer. Shayne Gostisbehere and Evgeny Medvedev had the Flyers' other goals.

Zack Smith and Mike Hoffman replied for the Senators, who lost for the second time in a row.

Avalanche 2, Devils 1

NEWARK, N.J. -- Matt Duchene and Tyson Barrie scored in a 4 minute, 5 second span in the second period to spark Colorado over New Jersey at the Prudential Center.

Reto Berra made 27 saves as the Avalanche continued the trend of alternating wins and losses in its last six games.

Cory Schneider made 23 saves, and Kyle Palmieri scored the Devils' lone goal.

Canadiens 2, Blue Jackets 1

MONTREAL -- Max Pacioretty scored a late power-play goal to give Montreal a win over Columbus at the Bell Centre.

Paul Byron also scored for the Canadiens while Nick Foligno replied for Columbus.

Mike Condon stopped 22 shots for Montreal and Sergei Bobrovsky made 24 saves for the Blue Jackets.

Red Wings 5, Sabres 4 (SO)

DETROIT -- Brad Richards scored the only goal of the shootout to give Detroit a victory over Buffalo Sabres at Joe Louis Arena.

Justin Abdelkader had two goals, an assist and a fight, and Tomas Tatar and Drew Miller also scored for Detroit. Gustav Nyquist had two assists and Petr Mrazek made 28 saves.

Evander Kane had two goals, Zemgus Girgensons a goal and an assist and Zach Bogosian scored for Buffalo. Rasmus Ristolainen had four assists and Linus Ullmark stopped 42 shots.

Panthers 3, Blues 1

ST. LOUIS -- Derek MacKenzie scored twice in the second period, leading Florida over St. Louis.

The win allowed the Panthers to snap a six-game losing streak to St. Louis and was their first victory over the Blues since Oct. 31, 2009.

Brandon Pirri also scored for Florida while David Backes scored for St. Louis.

Predators 5, Coyotes 2

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Nashville rallied with four third period goals for a win over Arizona at Bridgestone Arena.

Filip Forsberg scored twice and Mike Ribeiro, Calle Jarnkrok and James Neal also tallied goals for the Predators.

The Coyotes' goals came from Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Kyle Chipchura.

Flames 4, Stars 3 (SO)

CALGARY, Alberta -- Johnny Gaudreau scored the game-deciding goal in a shootout, leading Calgary over Dallas.

Mikael Backlund, Gaudreau and Dougie Hamilton all scored for the Flames in regulation.

Jason Spezza, Cody Eakin and Mattias Janmark scored for the Stars.

 

Penguins 5, Sharks 1

SAN JOSE -- Pittsburgh two goals from Phil Kessel and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 33 of 34 shots to win in San Jose for the first time since October of 1997. Pittsburgh had gone 13 games in San Jose since without a victory.

David Perron, Matt Cullen and Evgeni Malkin also scored for Pittsburgh.

Patrick Marleau one-timed his 10th goal past Fleury for the Sharks' lone goal.

Kings 2, Canucks 1 (OT)

LOS ANGELES -- Anze Kopitar scored the game-winning goal at 2:02 of overtime, lifting Los Angeles over Vancouver at Staples Center.

Kopitar cashed in with his eighth goal of the season, converting an assist from Jeff Carter. Jonathan Quick stopped 15 of the 16 shots he faced and Drew Doughty also scored.

The Canucks' Jacob Markstrom recorded 38 saves and Daniel Sedin scored in regulation.
