NBA roundup: Hawks thump Lakers

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Hawks blew a big first-half lead while losing their previous game and weren't going to let the same thing happen against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Al Horford scored 16 points to lead five double-figure scorers and added nine rebounds as the Hawks took a 19-point lead in the second quarter and then held off a Lakers rally for 100-87 victory Friday night.

Kobe Bryant, who had scored 31 points Wednesday at Washington to help the Lakers snap a seven-game losing streak, scored 14 points in the third stop of his retirement road show while shooting only 4-for-19, including 2-for-10 from behind the 3-point arc.

Pistons 102, Bucks 95

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Marcus Morris and Reggie Jackson scored 23 points apiece and Andre Drummond delivered 17 points and 23 rebounds as Detroit won its third straight.

Morris added four rebounds and three assists while Jackson had five assists for the Pistons. Power forward Ersan Ilyasova added 13 points and eight rebounds against his former team.

Drummond has five games with 20 or more rebounds this season. The rest of the league combined had three entering Friday's action.

Knicks 108, Nets 91

NEW YORK -- New York won the first battle of the boroughs this season, defeating rival at Madison Square Garden.

Brooklyn lost its seventh straight game on the road, their longest slide since ending the 2010-11 with seven losses.

Carmelo Anthony paced the Knicks with 28 points and rookie Kristaps Porzingis posted his 10th double-double this season with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Wizards 109, Suns 106

WASHINGTON -- Bradley Beal scored a season-high 34 points and Washington fought back in the second half to beat Phoenix.

John Wall had 17 points and nine assists for the Wizards, who had lost five of their previous six games.

Eric Bledsoe scored 22 points and guard Brandon Knight had 19 for the Suns.

Rockets 100, Mavericks 96

DALLAS -- James Harden poured in 18 of his game-high 25 points, including a backbreaking step-back jumper with 7.4 seconds, which sealed the win over Dallas.

Harden bounced back from a 3-for-12 shooting first-half with 11 points in the third quarter, plus two huge baskets and a terrific assist in crunch time that inched the slow-starting Rockets a little closer to .500 at 9-11.

The Rockets also won for the first time this season when Harden did not take at least 10 free throws.

Pelicans 114, Cavaliers 108, OT

NEW ORLEANS -- Anthony Davis shook off an injury to his lower left leg to score 31 points, including six in overtime, to overcome a 23-point fourth quarter by LeBron James and lift New Orleans to a victory..

Davis added 12 rebounds and four steals as the Pelicans snapped a four-game losing streak and recorded their fifth consecutive home victory over the Cavaliers, who dropped their second straight.

The Pelicans survived in overtime after the Cavaliers erased an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter. James exploded for 23 of his game-high 37 points in the fourth, including a go-ahead scoop layup around Davis with 30.5 seconds left.
