NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Kyle Busch is scheduled to undergo surgery later this month on the his right leg and left foot that were injured at the start of the season.

A procedure is set for Dec. 17 to have a rod removed from his right leg and screws and a plate from his left foot. Both were broken during a crash before the Daytona 500 in February.

Busch came back to win the series championship after missing the first 11 races of the Sprint Cup season.

"I'm ecstatic for the opportunity to be cut open and have blood and guts all over the place again this offseason," Busch joked. "I am looking forward to the surgery. I'm looking forward to getting everything out and being able to go through the rehab to try to get back to somewhat normal and being able to not have pain every day and take the medication I have to take every day and all that."
