- LaVeta F. Zurkammer, 99, of Lincoln passed away at 1:40 p.m.
December 13, 2015 at Lincoln Christian Village, Lincoln surrounded
by her loving family.

Obituary
LaVeta F. Zurkammer, 99, of Lincoln passed away at
1:40 p.m. December 13, 2015 at Lincoln Christian
Village, Lincoln surrounded by her loving family.
LaVeta was born December 3, 1916 at Franklin, IL the
daughter of George and Eva Mae Jeffers Baker. She
married Elmer Zurkammer in 1939 and he preceded her
in death. She is survived by one son: Thomas
(Connie) Zurkammer; one daughter: Phyllis (James)
White, both of Lincoln; five grandchildren: Thomas
(Karen) Zurkammer, Jr. of Union, MO; Tony (Rhesa)
Zurkammer of Lincoln; Tammy (Ed) Deilkes of
Broadwell; Michelle (Roger) Baldwin of Heyworth; and
Jeff (Ginger) Yeazle of Lincoln; eight great
grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is
the last of her immediate family. She was preceded
in death by her parents; husband; three brothers,
Don, George, and Charles Baker; sisters: Margaret
Marks, Eloise Schreiber, Mildred Sullivan and Audrey
Rose Baker.
LaVeta was a member of First United Methodist Church
of Lincoln and the Martha/Naomi Circle; Foster
Grandparents Advisory Council; Served as a director
on the Oasis Senior Center executive board six
years; she was a leader and emcee and helped formed
the variety band-The Fun-O-Leers for 10 and ˝ years;
member of the Lincoln College Alumni Board;
participant in the Ms Senior of Illinois pageant in
Springfield in 1992, voted Miss Congeniality and was
3rd runner up in the top four out of ten
contestants; participated again in 1995 and was
awarded the “Ruby Award”; and participated in the
National Bowling Tournament for 23 years. |
Services for LaVeta will be at 12 noon Wednesday,
December 16 2015 at the First United Methodist
Church of Lincoln with Rev. Michael Paulsen and Tim
Searby officiating. Visitation will be two hours
(from 10:00 am-12:00 noon) prior to the service.
Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery will be at 2:00P.M.
following the service. Memorials may be made in
LaVeta’s name to the Lincoln College, Christian
Village Memory Unit, or the Oasis Senior Center.
