Malcolm Hill led four Illinois players in double
figures with a career high 34 points that included four 3-pointers
and 11 rebounds in his double-double performance. Jalen
Coleman-Lands scored 17, Michael Finke had 13 and Kendrick Nunn
added 10 to round out the scoring.
The Illini cashed in on 14 of 30 triples on the afternoon.
Tre Burnette led the way for the Coyotes with a career-high 27 while
Casey Kasperbauer threw in 12.
It was good to see Illinois have an outstanding offensive effort
while at times playing better defense than has been evident most of
this campaign so far.
Are there still some concerns? [to top of second column] |
A boat load, though I'm a once eternal optimist that sadly is
becoming a realist if not a pessimist. The defense still needs
to be shored up. Our rebounding must improve. And Illinois has
to find more ways to score and can't just rely on hot perimeter
shooting every game. The more dribble penetration and attacking
the basket they can add, the better chances they'll have to
compete.
Next up is the Bragging Rights game versus Missouri Wednesday
night in St. Louis. That contest will tip at 6 p.m.
