RHP Scott Baker and the Yankees agreed to a minor league deal on
Jan. 30. Baker has struggled to regain his form since missing the
2012 season following Tommy John elbow surgery. He went 3-4 with a
5.47 ERA over 80 2/3 innings for the Rangers last season. Prior to
the elbow injury, Baker pitched for the Twins, going 55-37 with a
3.98 ERA in 821 innings from 2007-2011.

MLB Note - Boston Red Sox Ogando, Alexi
RHP Alexi Ogando signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the
Red Sox on Jan. 30. The deal reportedly includes another $1.5
million in potential incentives. Ogando, who was non-tendered by the
Rangers on Dec. 2, is likely to work in a relief role for the Red
Sox. The 31-year-old former All-Star has a career 3.55 ERA but has
struggled with injury problems the past few years and bounced
between starting and relief. Last season, he pitched in 27 games out
of the bullpen for the Rangers and posted a 2-3 record with one save
and a 6.84 ERA. In 2013, Ogando started 18 games and went 7-4 with a
3.11 ERA. His career record is 28-16 with four saves in five seasons
and 183 games (48 starts) with Texas.

MLB Note - Boston Red Sox Britton, Drake
LHP Drake Britton was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on
Jan. 30 to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for newly signed RHP
Alexi Ogando. Britton, 25, had no decisions and a 0.00 ERA in seven
relief appearances for Boston last year. He went 2-3 with five saves
and a 5.86 ERA in 45 appearances for Triple-A Pawtucket in 2014.

MLB Note - Atlanta Braves Gomes, Jonny
OF Jonny Gomes finalized a one-year, $4 million deal with the Braves
on Jan. 30. With LF Justin Upton and RF Jason Heyward traded, Gomes
might share time in left field for Atlanta in 2015. Gomes, 34, hit
just .234/.327/.330 last season with the Red Sox and Athletics. In
12 seasons, he has a .244/.335/.442 hitting line with 155 home runs
for Tampa Bay, Cincinnati, Washington, Boston and Oakland.

MLB Note - Colorado Rockies Hale, David
RHPs David Hale and Gus Schlosser were acquired by the Rockies from
the Braves on Jan. 30 in exchange for two minor league catchers,
Jose Briceno and Chris O'Dowd. Hale, who began last year as the
fourth starter in the Atlanta rotation, pitched in 45 games (six
starts) for the Braves in 2014, going 4-5 with a 3.30 ERA.

MLB Note - Colorado Rockies Schlosser, Gus
RHPs Gus Schlosser and David Hale were acquired by the Rockies from
the Braves on Jan. 30 in exchange for two minor league catchers,
Jose Briceno and Chris O'Dowd. Schlosser, 26, pitched in 15 games
for the Braves last season and finished 0-1 with a 7.64 ERA. He also
appeared in 25 games (15 starts) for Triple-A Gwinnett and went 7-6
with a 4.17 ERA.

MLB Note - Baltimore Orioles Pearce, Steve
1B/OF Steve Pearce and the Orioles avoided arbitration, agreeing to
a one-year, $3.7 million contract on Jan. 30. Pearce and the Orioles
bridged the largest arbitration gap between a player and a team
during the offseason by arriving at the midpoint. Pearce, 31,
requested $5.4 million, and the team countered with $2 million two
weeks ago when proposals were exchanged. Pearce, who will be
eligible for free agency after the 2015 season, batted
.293/.373/.556 with career bests of 21 home runs and 49 RBIs in 102
games last season for the Orioles.

MLB Note - No MLB Team Free Agents Jones, Andruw
OF Andruw Jones, who played in Japan the past two years, wants to
return to Major League Baseball, the Boston Globe reported Feb. 1.
Jones, 37, last appeared in the majors in 2012, when he hit .197
with 14 home runs in 94 games for the Yankees. He probably would
have to settle for a minor league contract this season. In his two
seasons with Rakuten in Japan, Jones hit 26 homers one season and 24
homers in the other. Agent Scott Boras told the newspaper that at
least two major league teams have shown interest in Jones, a 10-time
Gold Glove winner as an outfielder. Jones played some first base in
Japan as well.

MLB Note - Milwaukee Brewers Herrera, Elian
INF Elian Herrera was designated for assignment by the Brewers on
Jan. 30 to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for newly signed LHP
Neal Cotts. Herrera, 30, hit .274/.288/.341 with no homers and five
RBIs in 69 games for Milwaukee last year.

MLB Note - Colorado Rockies Aquino, Jayson
LHP Jayson Aquino was designated for assignment by the Rockies on
Jan. 30 to clear a spot on the 40-man roster after a four-player
trade. Aquino, 22, went a combined 5-10 with a 5.13 ERA in 18 starts
in high Class A and Double-A last year.

MLB Note - Atlanta Braves Stults, Eric
LHP Eric Stults agreed to a minor league deal with the Braves and
was invited to the team's major league spring camp. He could compete
for the fifth spot in the Atlanta rotation.
Stults, 35, made 65 combined starts for the Padres in 2013 and 2014
and posted a 8-17 record with a 4.30 ERA. He elected free agency in
November after clearing waivers and being outrighted to the minors
by San Diego.

MLB Note - San Francisco Giants Crawford, Brandon
SS Brandon Crawford and the Giants avoided arbitration, agreeing to
a one-year, $3,175,000 deal on Feb. 1. Crawford, 28, hit
.246/.324/.389 with 10 home runs and 69 RBIs in 153 games while
earning $560,000 last year. He asked for a $3.95 million salary,
while the Giants previously offered $2.4 million.

MLB Note - Los Angeles Angels Richards, Garrett
RHP Garrett Richards and the Angels avoided arbitration, agreeing to
a one-year, $3.2 million deal on Jan. 31. Richards, 26, was one of
the most dominating pitchers in the American League before tearing
patellar tendon in his left knee while covering first base on a play
at Fenway Park in August. The good news is Richards' arm is fine and
he is expected back in time for spring training. He went 13-4 with a
2.61 ERA in 26 starts, striking out 164 in 168 2/3 innings last
year.

MLB Note - New York Mets Mejia, Jenrry
RHP Jenrry Mejia and the Mets avoided arbitration, agreeing to a
one-year, $2,595,000 deal on Jan. 30. Mejia, 25, went 6-6 with 28
saves and a 3.65 ERA in 63 games (seven starts) for New York last
year, settling into the closer role.

MLB Note - Boston Red Sox Nava, Daniel
OF/1B Daniel Nava and the Red Sox avoided arbitration, agreeing to a
one-year, $1.85 million deal on Jan. 30. He asked for a $2.25
million salary, and the team countered with an offer of $1.3
million. Nava, 31, hit .270/.346/.361 with four homers and 37 RBIs
in 113 games last year.
