Hawks baseball
Last season, the Hawks finished 13th overall after going 43-13. This
was the sixth straight time the team finished with at least 40 wins
in a season. The Hawks also won their fifth straight Mid-West
Athletic Conference (M-WAC) crown.
Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach, Nate Metzger, said he is
looking forward to upholding HCC’s winning tradition.
Returning to the Hawks this year is M-WAC Co-Freshman of the Year,
Derek Bangert. Bangert tied for the most home runs (17 total) in all
of NJCAA D-II and tied for sixth in the nation with 69 runs batted
in.
Other Hawks players to keep an eye on this year include pitchers
Justin Curry and Matt Miller.
Additionally, the Hawks have been ranked 40th in Perfect Games’ 2015
Top 50 Junior College Teams, which ranks nearly 500 programs across
all of junior college baseball.
Other Hawks baseball stats Over Heartland’s seven-year
baseball history, 103 sophomores have moved on to play baseball at
four-year institutions. Of those, 72 played at the Division I level.
Overall, Heartland baseball has gone 325-78 while being nationally
ranked each year. The team reached the NJCAA D-II World Series three
of the last four years.

Hawks softball
Led by head coach Steve Leverton, the Hawks softball team went 35-21
last year and finished 14th in the nation. The Hawks also won their
fourth straight M-WAC championship.

In his second season, Leverton is hoping to lead the team to another
winning season.
Returning this season is first-team All-American and Region 24
Player of the Year, Alexis Tarver. Last season, Tarver was ninth in
the country with 16 home runs, She tied for 16th in the nation with
67 runs batted in. Tarver also swept the M-WAC Player and Freshman
of the Year awards.
Other Hawks softball stats
The Hawks have reached the NJCAA D-II National Championship four
times and won in 2009. Additionally, the team has captured six out
of seven M-WAC regular season championships.
The team’s seven-year record is 305-109.
