02/05/2015 MLB Note - Los Angeles Angels Hamilton, Josh
OF Josh Hamilton underwent shoulder surgery Feb. 4, and he will be
sidelined for six to eight weeks, leaving his status for Opening Day
uncertain. He might be able to start baseball activities as soon as
late February. Hamilton underwent a procedure to repair the AC joint
in his right shoulder, which was injured late in the 2014 season,
forcing him to miss most of September. The ailment flared up during
a workout in late January. The 33-year-old veteran battled injuries
the past two years after signing with the Angels in December 2012.
In 89 games last season, he batted .263/.331/.414 with 10 home runs
and 44 RBIs.

MLB Note - Cleveland Indians Salazar, Danny
RHP Danny Salazar was investigated by police for a possible sexual
assault but was not charged, according to a Cleveland Plain Dealer
report. Indians GM Chris Antonetti issued a statement Feb. 4 that
read, "We are aware of an investigation involving Danny. Since this
potentially could become a legal matter, we won't have any
additional comment at this time." Last year, Salazar bounced between
Cleveland and Triple-A Columbus. He went 6-8 with a 4.25 ERA in 20
starts for the Indians.

MLB Note - St. Louis Cardinals Villanueva, Carlos
RHP Carlos Villanueva signed a minor league deal with the Cardinals
on Feb. 4, and he received an invitation to the team's major league
spring camp. Villanueva, 31, spent the past two seasons with the
Cubs, tallying a 4.27 ERA as a utility pitcher. Last season, he was
5-7 with a 4.64 ERA in 42 games, including five starts. He started
15 games the previous season. "He gives us that protection that
we've discussed before as a right-handed option for the bullpen or
in the rotation, if needed," GM John Mozeliak told the
Post-Dispatch. "As we get closer to spring training, there are still
a lot of arms out there, a lot pitchers to look at, and we saw
(Villanueva) as having the profile for what fit us the best."

MLB Note - Texas Rangers Ludwick, Ryan
OF Ryan Ludwick signed a minor league contract with the Rangers on
Feb. 4 and received an invitation to the Texas' major league spring
camp. The deal would be worth $1.75 million if the former All-Star
makes the Opening Day roster, the Fort Worth Star Telegram reported.
The 36-year-old spent the past three seasons with the Reds. After
batting .275 with 26 home runs and 80 RBIs in 2012, he had a
combined 11 homers and 57 RBIs the last two years.

MLB Note - Pittsburgh Pirates Caminero, Arquimedes
RHP Arquimedes Caminero, designated for assignment by the Marlins on
Jan. 28, was traded to the Pirates on Feb. 4 in a cash deal.
Caminero, 27, went 0-1 with a 10.80 ERA in six relief appearances
for Miami in 2014. He spent most of last season with Triple-A New
Orleans, going 4-1 with 10 saves and a 4.86 ERA in 42 relief
outings.

MLB Note - Chicago White Sox Almonte, Yency
RHP Yency Almonte was traded from the Angels to the White Sox on
Feb. 4 as the player to be named in the deal that sent INF Gordon
Beckham to Los Angeles in August. Almonte, 20, went a combined 2-6
with a 5.91 ERA in 11 starts in the low minors last year.

MLB Note - Chicago White Sox Viciedo, Dayan
LF Dayan Viciedo was released by the White Sox on Feb. 4, a week
after he was designated for assignment. Viciedo, 25, hit
.231/.281/.405 with 21 home runs and 58 RBIs in 145 games last
season.

MLB Note - Colorado Rockies Kendrick, Kyle
RHP Kyle Kendrick signed a one-year, $5.5 million deal with the
Rockies on Feb. 4. The 30-year-old veteran will compete for a spot
in the Colorado rotation. Kendrick went 10-13 with a 4.61 ERA in 32
starts for the Phillies last year, nearly identical to his 10-13,
4.70 mark in 30 starts the season before. Over eight major league
seasons, all with Philadelphia, Kendrick has a 74-68 record with a
4.42 ERA in 226 games (185 starts).

MLB Note - Colorado Rockies Flande, Yohan
LHP Yohan Flande was designated for assignment by the Rockies on
Feb. 4 to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for newly signed RHP
Kyle Kendrick. Flande, 29, went 0-6 with a 5.19 ERA in 16 games (10
starts) for Colorado last year, his first major league experience.
In 18 games (16 starts) for Triple-A Colorado Springs in 2014, he
finished 3-11 with a 5.60 ERA.

Cubs Britton, Drake
LHP Drake Britton was claimed off waivers by the Cubs on Feb. 4, a
week after he was designated for assignment by the Red Sox. Britton,
25, had no decisions and a 0.00 ERA in seven relief appearances for
Boston last year. He went 2-3 with five saves and a 5.86 ERA in 45
appearances for Triple-A Pawtucket in 2014.

MLB Note - Toronto Blue Jays Colabello, Chris
1B Chris Colabello was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on
Feb. 4 to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for newly acquired LHP
Jayson Aquino. Colabello, 31, was claimed off waivers by Toronto
from Minnesota in December. He hit .229/.282/.380 with six homers
and 39 RBIs in 50 games for the Twins last season. He batted
.268/.336/.469 with 10 home runs and 38 RBIs in 61 games for
Triple-A Rochester in 2014.

MLB Note - Toronto Blue Jays Aquino, Jayson
LHP Jayson Aquino was acquired by the Blue Jays from the Rockies in
a Feb. 4 trade that sent LHP Tyler Ybarra to Colorado. The Rockies
designed Aquino for assignment on Jan. 30. Aquino, 22, went a
combined 5-10 with a 5.13 ERA in 18 starts in high Class A and
Double-A last year.

MLB Note - San Francisco Giants Dominguez, Chris
OF Chris Dominguez, designated for assignment by the Giants on Jan.
29, was released Feb. 4. Dominguez, 28, made his major league debut
last season, going 1-for-17 (.059) with a homer and two RBIs in
eight games for San Francisco. He spent the bulk of the season with
Triple-A Fresno, hitting .274/.307/.460 with 21 homers and 85 RBIs
in 131 games.

MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Germen, Gonzalez
RHP Gonzalez Germen's stay with the Cubs lasted two weeks after his
stay with the Rangers lasted three days. Chicago designated him for
assignment Feb. 4. Germen headed to his fourth team in a month when
the Cubs acquired him off waivers from the Rangers on Jan. 23. Texas
acquired him from the Yankees on Jan. 20 in a cash transaction.
Germen, 27, was acquired by the Yankees from the Mets in a cash deal
on Dec. 19. In 25 relief appearances with the Mets last season,
Germen had no decisions, a 4.75 ERA and a 1.451 WHIP in 30 1/3
innings. Germen pitched 18 times in relief for Triple-A Las Vegas
last year, going 3-1 with a 2.38 ERA and six saves.
