Russel Allen Garden Day scheduled for March 14th

LINCOLN - The University of Illinois
Extension Logan County Master Gardeners will host Russel Allen
Garden Day on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at the Meyers-Evans Student
Center, Lincoln College. Sessions will run from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm,
with registration from 8 to 8:45 am. |
The public is invited to this event that will feature various
presentations related to gardening, as well as displays by area
plant and gardening societies. The day is in honor of Russel Allen a
charter member of the Logan county Master Gardener volunteer
program.
Key note speaker Guy Sternberg, Starhill Forest Arboretum of
Illinois College will discuss “Tough Trees for the Landscape.”
Explore a selection of adaptable landscape trees and see some
memorable examples of how adaptable they can be to urban conditions,
poor drainage and soil problems. Native tree species will be
emphasized.
Other presenters and session topics will include: Pruning and Care
of Hydrangeas, Rich Hornbaker, Hornbaker Gardens; Inspired Miniature
Gardens, Jennifer Doggett, Wendell Niepagen Greenhouses; Getting
Started with Native Plants, Sherrie Snyder, Illinois Prairie Chapter
of Wild Ones; When Thyme Began, Mary Buckles, Prairie Home Herbs;
Hostas, Dr. Thomas and Janet Ewald; Curb Appeal for the Home, Mitch
Birky and Matt Eich, Bellas Landscaping; and Composting, Jennifer
Fishburn, U of I Extension. Pre-registration with a discounted ticket price is highly
