02/15/2015 MLB Note - Chicago White Sox Albers, Matt

RHP Matt Albers was signed by the White Sox to a minor league contract. He missed most of last season due to a shoulder injury, posting a 0.90 ERA in eight relief appearances over 10 innings for the Houston Astros. In 2012, he had a 3-1 record with a 2.39 ERA in 63 games with Boston and Arizona. He was 3-1 record with a 3.14 ERA in 56 games with Cleveland in 2013.

MLB Note - Toronto Blue Jays Donaldson, Josh

3B Josh Donaldson lost his salary arbitration case with the Blue Jays and will receive $4.3 million in 2015. Donaldson, heading into his first season in Toronto, was seeking $5.75 million. Donaldson hit .255/.342/.456 with 29 home runs and 98 RBIs for the Athletics last year. He was acquired by Toronto in December for 3B Brett Lawrie, LHP Sean Nolin, RHP Kendall Graveman and minor league SS Franklin Barreto.

MLB Note - Arizona Diamondbacks Reed, Addison

RHP Addison Reed agreed to a one-year contract worth $4,875,000 on Feb. 13 to avoid a salary arbitration hearing with the Diamondbacks. Reed had 32 saves in 38 chances last year with a 4.25 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 59 1/3 innings. Over his four-year career, including three seasons with the White Sox, Reed has gone 9-13 with a 4.20 ERA and 101 saves.

MLB Note - Atlanta Braves Young Jr., Eric

OF Eric Young Jr. signed a minor league contract with the Braves on Feb. 13 and received an invitation to the team's major league spring training. Young was non-tendered by the Mets in December before landing with Atlanta, where he could be used as a platoon outfielder, pinch hitter or pinch runner. The 29-year-old stole 76 bases the past two seasons. In 100 games last year with the Mets, the switch-hitting Young batted .229 with one home run, 17 RBIs and 30 stolen bases. He is a career .252 batter with eight homers, 83 RBIs and 138 stolen bases in six years with the Mets and Rockies.

MLB Note - Seattle Mariners Weeks, Rickie

INF Rickie Weeks and the Mariners completed a one-year, $2 million deal on Feb. 13 after he passed a physical. Performance and awards bonuses could add $2 million to the contract. Weeks, 32, is expected to fill a utility role with the Mariners. In 121 games last year for Milwaukee, Weeks hit .274/.357/.452 with eight home runs and 29 RBIs.

MLB Note - Texas Rangers Wright, Jamey

RHP Jamey Wright signed a minor league contract with the Rangers on Feb. 14 that includes an invitation to spring training with the major league club. The deal could be worth $1 million if Wright lands on the major league roster. The 40-year-old reliever pitched for the Dodgers last year and posted a 5-4 record with one save and a 4.34 ERA in 61 appearances spanning 70 1/3 innings, including one start.

MLB Note - Philadelphia Phillies Hamels, Cole

LHP Cole Hamels is currently a highly sought-after player. Philadelphia Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro said last week that four teams made trade offers to the Phillies in an attempt to acquire him, and one of those teams is the Boston Red Sox, according to the Boston Globe. Hamels was 9-9 with a 2.46 ERA last season. He is due to make $96 million over the next four seasons, so the Phillies are listening to offers for him in an attempt to rebuild the team.

MLB Note - Cincinnati Reds Chapman, Aroldis

LHP Aroldis Chapman avoided arbitration Friday by agreeing to a one-year contract with the Reds for the 2015 season. Terms of the deal were not released, but Chapman reportedly will earn $8.05 million this season. Chapman had filed for $8.7 million and the Reds offered $6.65 million. Chapman, 26, saved 36 games in 38 chances with a 2.00 ERA and 106 strikeouts in 54 innings -- overcoming an injury after being hit in the face by a line drive during spring training. He came back after undergoing emergency facial surgery and made his third consecutive All-Star appearance.

MLB Note - Kansas City Royals Holland, Greg

RHP Greg Holland avoided salary arbitration with the Royals when they agreed to an $8.25 million, one-year contract Feb. 13. Holland made $4,725,000 million last year and had asked for $9 million when the sides exchanged proposed arbitration salaries last month. The Royals had offered $6.65 million. He is eligible for free agency after the 2016 season. Holland, 29, has made the American League All-Star team the last two seasons. He had 46 saves and was 1-3 with a 1.44 ERA for the AL champions, striking out 90 and walking 20 in 62 1/3 innings. He had seven more saves and a 0.82 ERA in the postseason.

MLB Note - Miami Marlins Phelps, David

RHP David Phelps lost his arbitration case with the Marlins and will make $1.4 million in 2015. Phelps had requested $1,875,000. Phelps is in his first year with the Marlins after being acquired in a December trade with the Yankees. He was 5-5 with a 4.38 ERA over 113 innings last year. He is 15-14 with a 4.21 ERA in three major league seasons.

MLB Note - Cincinnati Reds Guillon, Ismael

LHP Ismael Guillon, designated for assignment by the Reds on Feb. 7, cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Feb. 13. Guillon, 22, went 1-6 with a 5.79 ERA in 12 games (11 starts) for high Class A Bakersfield last year.

MLB Note - Seattle Mariners Olmos, Edgar

LHP Edgar Olmos was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Feb. 13 to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for newly signed INF Rickie Weeks. Seattle claimed Olmos off waivers from Miami on Nov. 20. Olmos, 24, went a combined 3-3 with three saves and a 4.06 ERA in 51 relief appearances between Double-A and Triple-A last year.

MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Germen, Gonzalez

RHP Gonzalez Germen, designated for assignment by the Cubs on Feb. 4, cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Iowa on Feb. 13. The Cubs acquired him off waivers from the Rangers on Jan. 23. Texas acquired him from the Yankees on Jan. 20 in a cash transaction. Germen, 27, was acquired by the Yankees from the Mets in a cash deal on Dec. 19. In 25 relief appearances with the Mets last season, Germen had no decisions, a 4.75 ERA and a 1.451 WHIP in 30 1/3 innings. Germen pitched 18 times in relief for Triple-A Las Vegas last year, going 3-1 with a 2.38 ERA and six saves.
