The workshop will be held March 6th and 7th at the Normal
Intermodal, the Amtrak station, bus station and meeting facility for
that city. He commented on the site saying, “If you haven’t been to
the building, it is their train station and their bus station. It
has three floors of just great building and is really a testament of
what a town with a vision can do.”
Johnson said the facility is a three-story, building with meeting
areas that will accommodate the needs of the workshop. It was also
noted that the times of day for the workshop were set up based on
the Amtrak schedule, which gives aldermen the option of taking the
train to and from Normal.
The planning process is being guided by the Northern Illinois
University Center for Governmental Studies.
The first step of the process was to conduct a community survey.
That survey went up at the end of January and resulted in a
surprising number of responses.
This week, Johnson said the first session, to be held from 5:30 p.m.
to 8 p.m. on Friday will focus on the results of that survey.

The Saturday session will commence at 8:30 a.m. and is
expected to run until approximately 3 p.m. Johnson commented on
the work that would take place that day. “Saturday is really
when the rubber meets the road,” he said. “The department heads
will be present to talk about what the goals and objectives are
for the strategic plan. That is really going to be exciting and
a good session.”
He concluded that he would have a packet of materials related to
the workshop put together by the first of the week. Those
packets will be sent to aldermen so they may have a chance to
preview the information prior to getting started on Friday.
