Obituary
Marilyn R. Weingarz, 74, of DeKalb, formerly of
Lincoln died at 8:20 p.m. February 23, 2015 at
Oakcrest Retirement Home, DeKalb.
Marilyn was born September 12, 1940 in Lincoln, the
daughter of John and Vera Marie Miller Yeates. She
married Joseph R. Weingarz September 27, 1959 in
Lincoln. He preceded her in death February 21, 2010.
Marilyn is survived by two sons: Jeff (Julie)
Weingarz of Sycamore; Joseph Weingarz of Naperville;
five grandchildren: Amelia, Kevin, Sean, Clare, and
Maggie; one brother: John D. (Chris) Yeates; two
sisters: Carolyn (Steve) Schreiber and Joelyn (Tim)
Kelly. She was preceded in death by her parents,
husband and daughter-in-law, Judi Weingarz.
Marilyn was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran
Church of Lincoln having served the Immanuel
community as a Church Council member, Sunday school
teacher, choir member, in addition to serving many
years as the church secretary. She recently served
the Central/Southern Illinois Synod of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America as a
Synodically Authorized Minister. She also worked
many years as a loan processor with Olympic Federal
and State Bank of Lincoln. |
Marilyn was an avid sports fan with a passion for
Lincoln Railer football and basketball, the Chicago
Cubs, and the Chicago Bears. The role Marilyn
enjoyed most was that of Grandmother, for her own
grandchildren and for those of her nieces and
nephews. She loved attending their many dance
recitals, soccer games, football games, choral
performances, theater performances, as well as
birthday parties, confirmations, and graduations.
Services for Marilyn will be at 10 a.m. Saturday,
February 28, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of
Lincoln with Rev. Candida Turner and Rev. Andrew
Nyren officiating. Visitation will be Friday evening
from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the church. Burial will be
at a later date in Abraham Lincoln National
Cemetery, Joliet. Memorials may be given in her
honor to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Logan
County Food Pantry. Services were entrusted to
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.
