							Christian Eldon “Bud” Westen, 92, of Emden, Illinois 
							passed away on January 1, 2015 at Memorial Medical 
							Center, Springfield.
 Christian was born August 10, 1922, the son of 
							Andrew C. Westen and Rena H. Bruns Westen. He 
							married Anna Clara Kutz on February 27, 1949 at St. 
							Peter’s Lutheran Church, Emden, Illinois. He is 
							survived by his wife of Emden and they had five 
							children: Dennis who is deceased; Gloria Kelroy 
							(Tom) of Fond du Lac, WI; Larry “Moe” Westen (Joyce) 
							of Emden; Clarke Westen (Tammy) of Kenney; and Rita 
							Haedicke (Larry) of East Peoria; ten grandchildren 
							and three great grandchildren; one sister: Irene of 
							Emden, and one brother: Loren Westen (Shirley) of 
							Emden. He was preceded in death by his parents, two 
							sisters; Fauline Johnson (Alfred) and Agnes Marten 
							(Virgil) and his son, Dennis.
 
 Christian and Anna farmed a Scully Lease for 50 
							years, retiring in 1998. In 1977 and 1978, he and 
							family built the home on the farm and lived there 
							until they moved to town. They retired in Emden, 
							enjoyed their family, visiting friends and 
							relatives.

							Christian was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran 
							Church, the Brotherhood, and served as trustee and 
							usher. He was a Farm Bureau member, enjoyed camping, 
							Linpro Square Dance Club and playing cards. He also 
							liked gardening.
 Services will be Monday, January 5, 2015 at 10:00 
							a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Emden. Burial 
							will follow at Hartsburg Union Cemetery. Visitation 
							will be Monday, from 8:30-10:00 am at the church 
							prior to the service. Arrangements were entrusted to 
							Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln. In 
							lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the St. 
							Peter’s Lutheran Church “Improvement Fund”.
