ESPN reported Wednesday that Woods' agent said no final decision
has been made.
Golf.com reported Woods is making hotel plans for the tournament,
which takes place Jan. 29-Feb. 1 in Scottsdale. He has not played in
the event since 2001,
Tournament officials said there has been no official commitment from
Woods, which is not required until the Friday before tournament week
on Jan. 23.
"There is no commitment," Woods' agent, Mark Steinberg, said in a
text message to ESPN. "When we have the early schedule finalized, we
will advise."
Even though Woods has not played in the Phoenix-area event since
2001 -- and has never won it -- he has more than a little history
with the tournament.
In 1997, Woods made a memorable hole in one on the famed
stadium-style 16th hole, and two years later he enlisted a group of
spectators to move a large boulder that impeded his path to the
green. Also in 1999, a man heckling Woods was removed from the
course by police and later arrested when a gun was discovered in his
backpack. Two years after that incident, a fan threw an orange onto
a green while Woods was putting, and he hasn't been back since.

Woods had his worst season as a pro in 2014, playing just nine times
and finishing only four tournaments because of back issues and
subsequent surgery.
Woods tied for last in December at his annual Hero World Challenge
event, his first competition in four months, since missing the cut
at the PGA Championship in August.
Woods has slipped to No. 24 in the World Golf Rankings. He is three
victories short of Sam Snead's record of 82 PGA Tour victories and
four shy of Jack Nicklaus' mark of 18 major titles. Woods has not
won a Grand Slam event since the 2008 U.S. Open.
