RHP Ty Hensley, a 21-year-old Yankees prospect, is recovering from
injuries sustained in a "brutal attack" during the holidays. Former
Weber State linebacker Anthony Morales was charged with aggravated
assault and battery on Jan. 8 for allegedly breaking the Hensley's
jaw during an argument about signing bonuses, according to police.
Hensley received a $1.2 million signing bonus after he was drafted
in the first round by the Yankees in 2012. After missing the 2013
season because of hip and hernia surgery, he returned last year to
post a 0-0 record with a 2.93 ERA in 30 2/3 innings for the Yankees'
rookie-level and low-Class A teams.

MLB Note - Baltimore Orioles Arencibia, J.P.
C/1B J.P. Arencibia agreed to a minor league contract with the
Orioles and received an invitation to spring training, multiple
media outlets reported Jan. 8. The Orioles are in need of depth
behind C Matt Wieters after they failed to sign free agent Nick
Hundley, who took a two-year deal with the Colorado Rockies.
Arencibia, 29, appeared in 63 games last season for the Rangers and
batted .177 with 10 home runs and 35 RBIs. Arencibia is a career
.207 hitter with 74 homers and 228 RBIs in five seasons with the
Rangers and the Blue Jays.

MLB Note - Washington Nationals Werth, Jayson
OF Jayson Werth will have arthroscopic surgery on his troublesome
right shoulder Friday and is expected to be out two to three months,
according to multiple media reports. Depending on the speed of his
recovery, Werth could miss all of spring training and possibly the
start of the regular season. Werth, 35, played through the injury
last year, batting .292/.394/.455 with 16 home runs and 82 RBIs in
147 regular-season games.

MLB Note - Chicago White Sox Bonifacio, Emilio
UT Emilio Bonifacio and the White Sox finalized a one-year, $4
million contract on Jan. 8. The deal calls for the 29-year-old to
receive $3 million in 2015, with the White Sox holding a $4 million
option for 2016 with a $1 million buyout. In 110 games last year for
the Cubs and Braves, Bonifacio batted .259 and had 26 stolen bases
while splitting time between center field, second base, third base,
right field, shortstop, left field and designated hitter.

MLB Note - Chicago White Sox Danks, Jordan
OF Jordan Danks was designated for assignment by the White Sox on
Jan. 8, clearing a spot on the 40-man roster for newly signed UT
Emilio Bonifacio. Danks, 28, hit .222/.303/.291 with two homers and
10 RBIs in 51 games for Chicago last season. He batted
.270/.355/.460 with 16 homers and 57 RBIs in 93 games for Triple-A
Charlotte. In parts of three seasons with the White Sox, he has a
career .227/.303/.326 hitting line with eight homers and 26 RBIs in
180 games.

MLB Note - Los Angeles Angels Kubitza, Kyle
3B Kyle Kubitza and RHP Nate Hyatt were acquired by the Angels in a
Jan. 8 trade that sent LHP Richardo Sanchez to the Braves.

Kubitza, 24, hit .295/.405/.470 at Double-A last season. The
6-foot-3 left-handed hitter recorded eight homers, 55 RBIs and 21
stolen bases, and he tied for the Southern League lead with 77 walks
and ranked second with 11 triples. 3B David Freese will be a free
agent after next season, and the Angels hope Kubitza will develop
into a possible replacement.

MLB Note - Los Angeles Angels Hyatt, Nate
RHP Nate Hyatt and 3B Kyle Kubitza were acquired by the Angels in a
Jan. 8 trade that sent LHP Richardo Sanchez to the Braves.
Hyatt, a 24-year-old reliever, had a 2.71 ERA at Class A last season
and is expected to pitch at Double-A in 2015.

MLB Note - Atlanta Braves Sanchez, Ricardo
LHP Ricardo Sanchez was acquired by the Braves in a Jan. 8 trade
that sent 3B Kyle Kubitza and RHP Nate Hyatt to the Angels.
Sanchez, 17, was the Angels' No. 2 prospect, as rated by Baseball
America. He went 2-2 with a 3.49 ERA in the rookie-level Arizona
League last year.

MLB Note - Atlanta Braves Pastornicky, Tyler
INF Tyler Pastornicky was designated for assignment by the Braves on
Jan. 8. Pastornicky, 25, hit .200/.304/.250 with no homers and two
RBIs in 28 games for Atlanta last season. In 47 games for Triple-A
Gwinnett, he batted .290/.330/.347 with one homer and 17 RBIs.

MLB Note - Los Angeles Angels Krauss, Marc
1B/OF Marc Krauss was designated for assignment by the Angels on
Jan. 8 to make room on the 40-man roster for newly acquired 3B Kyle
Kubitza. Krauss, 27, was claimed off waivers by the Angels from the
Astros on Dec. 8. He hit .194/.279/.323 with six homers and 21 RBIs
in 67 games for Houston last year. He batted .289/.375/.459 with
five homers and 38 RBIs in 42 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

MLB Note - Cincinnati Reds Sampson, Keyvius
RHP Keyvius Sampson was claimed off waivers by the Reds from the
Padres on Jan. 8. Sampson, 24, was designated for assignment by San
Diego on Dec. 29. He went 2-5 with a 6.68 ERA in 38 games (14
starts) for Double-A El Paso last season.
