On Monday, city of Lincoln aldermen started the new year with a vote to approve work to be done at the Lincoln Depot. Aldermen voted unanimously to hire Spirtas Wrecking Company of St. Louis to do the necessary demolition work to return the train station to its original 1911 structure. Pictured above are sketches of what the footprint looked like in 1911 (top) and what it looks like now, with the areas in bright green being the portions that have to be removed. While the city is responsible for the decisions, the funding for this project will ultimately come through the High Speed Rail program. Photo from LDN archives (Click on image for larger version) |
