Illinois’ new governor says he wants to enforce Illinois’ laws and
that includes the law for the Medical Cannabis Pilot Program.
Governor Bruce Rauner says he will immerse himself in the law to
understand what the complications are, but he does have some initial
concerns.

“I have a concern, I expressed my concern during the campaign, that it looked
like some folks had left the administration, they were playing lobbying roles,
they were working with some of their friends to get some of these contracts,” he
said. “I’m concerned about the process. I don’t think it’s been run well.”
The program expected to deliver permits for cultivation centers before the end
of the year, but that deadline passed without any permits issued. Outgoing
Governor Pat Quinn said the law is complicated and even suggested changes to the
program including extending the sunset by two years. The program is set to
expire at the end of 2018.
