Award this Friday

ATLANTA - The Palms Grill Café
in Atlanta is starting the year out with a bang. They have been
awarded the “Enjoy Illinois: Delicious Destination” award and will
be receiving their certificate on Friday, January 16th 2015 at 10am
at the Café located at 110 SW Arch Street in the back banquet room.
Following the certificate reception the Palms will be serving their
Blue Plate Special of meatloaf, mashed potatoes with gravy, green
beans w/bacon and a cup of homemade soup. For the Palms daily blue
plate specials, Route 66 and a rich history are just a part of the
reason for this delicious destinations success. Please join us in
recognition of their success.

A Brief History: The Grill, as the locals call it, opened in 1934
in the center of downtown Atlanta, Illinois on Route 66. It served
locals and travelers alike, including its most famous customer,
heavyweight boxing champion Max Baer, Sr. The Grill provided a great
spot for a home-cooked meal, BINGO games, and weekly dances. If you
wanted to catch the Greyhound Bus, you just flipped the switch for
the light on the bottom of the Grill’s large neon sign. You can once
again step back into the 1930’s and smell the Blue Plate Special
after it reopened on April 28th, 2009. For more information about
