01/16/2015 MLB Note - Toronto Blue Jays Dirks, Andy
OF Andy Dirks, non-tendered by the Blue Jays on Dec. 2, re-signed
with Toronto on Jan. 15, receiving a minor league deal and an
invitation to spring training. Dirks, 28, was acquired by Toronto
off waivers from the Tigers on Oct. 31. He had back surgery in
March, then sustained a hamstring injury that limited him to 14
minor league games in 2014. From 2010 to 2013, Dirks batted
.276/.332/.413 with 24 homers and 100 RBIs in 297 games for Detroit.

MLB Note - Cleveland Indians Swarzak, Anthony
RHP Anthony Swarzak signed a minor league deal with the Indians on
Jan. 15 and was invited to spring training. He refused the Twins'
outright assignment to the minors and opted to become a free agent
Nov. 25. Swarzak, 29, went 3-2 with a 4.60 ERA in 50 games (four
starts) for Minnesota last year. Over parts of five major league
seasons with the Twins, he went 16-24 with a 4.48 ERA in 181 games
(32 starts).

MLB Note - Los Angeles Angels Butera, Drew
C Drew Butera and the Angels avoided arbitration, agreeing to a
one-year, $987,000 contract on Jan. 15. The Angels picked up Butera
from the Dodgers in a December trade for minor league OF Matt Long.
Butera, 31, hit .188/.267/.288 with three homers and 14 RBIs while
earning $700,000 last year. He is a career .183 major league hitter.

MLB Note - Los Angeles Angels Ramos, Cesar
LHP Cesar Ramos and the Angels avoided arbitration, agreeing to a
one-year, $1,312,500 contract on Jan. 15. Ramos arrived in Anaheim
in a Nov. 5 trade that sent minor league RHP Mark Sappington to the
Tampa Bay Rays. Ramos, 30, finished 2-6 with a 3.70 ERA in 43 games
(seven starts) while making $749,750 in 2014. He was largely
effective as a reliever, going 1-3 with a 2.92 ERA.

MLB Note - Los Angeles Angels Santiago, Hector
LHP Hector Santiago and the Angels avoided arbitration, agreeing to
a one-year, $2.29 million contract on Jan. 15. Santiago, 27, went
6-9 with a 3.75 ERA in 30 games (24 starts) while making $530,000
during his first season as an Angel in 2014. He was acquired from
the Chicago White Sox in a three-team trade in December 2013.

MLB Note - Texas Rangers Feliz, Neftali
RHP Neftali Feliz and the Rangers agreed to a one-year, $4,125,000
deal on Jan. 15, avoiding arbitration. Feliz, the closer on the
Rangers' World Series teams in 2010 and 2011, returned to the role
last July when Texas traded Joakim Soria to the Tigers. Feliz, 26,
had 81 saves in 2010 and 2011 but was converted to a starter in 2012
when the Rangers signed Joe Nathan. Feliz ended up having Tommy John
surgery on Aug. 1, 2012, and did not make it back to the Rangers
until late in the 2013 season. He spent the first half of last
season at Triple-A and then made 13 saves with a 1.99 ERA in 30
appearances after replacing Soria. Feliz, who made $3 million in
2014, is scheduled to be a free agent after the 2016 season.

MLB Note - Los Angeles Dodgers Heisey, Chris
OF Chris Heisey and the Dodgers avoided arbitration, agreeing to a
one-year, $2.16 million deal on Jan. 15. Heisey, 30, was acquired by
the Dodgers from the Reds on Dec. 2 in exchange for RHP Matt Magill.
He batted .222/.265/.378 with eight homers and 22 RBIs in 119 games
for Cincinnati last year.

LHP Felix Doubront and the Cubs avoided arbitration, agreeing to a
one-year, $1,925,000 deal on Jan. 15. Doubront, 27, went a combined
4-5 with a 5.54 ERA in 21 games (14 starts) for Boston and Chicago
last year.

C Martin Maldonado and the Brewers avoided arbitration, agreeing to
a two-year, $1.95 million deal on Jan. 15. Maldonado, 28, hit

MLB Note - St. Louis Cardinals Lynn, Lance
RHP Lance Lynn and the Cardinals avoided arbitration, agreeing to a
three-year, $22 million deal on Jan. 15. Lynn, 27, will make $7
million in 2015, $7.5 million in 2016 and $7.5 million in 2017. He
also could make additional money with incentives tied to games
started. Lynn went 15-10 with a 2.74 ERA in 33 starts last season.

MLB Note - St. Louis Cardinals Bourjos, Peter
OF Peter Bourjos and the Cardinals avoided arbitration, agreeing to
a one-year, $1.65 million deal on Jan. 15. Bourjos, 27, hit
.231/.294/.348 with four homers and 24 RBIs in 119 games for St.
Louis last year. He underwent surgery on Oct. 21 to repair a right
hip ailment that bothered him much of the season, but he should be
ready for the start of spring training.

LHP James Russell and the Braves avoided arbitration, agreeing to a

RHP Bobby Parnell and the Mets avoided arbitration, agreeing to a
one-year, $3.7 million deal on Jan. 7. He made the same salary last
year. Parnell blew a save on Opening Day last season, then underwent
season-ending Tommy John surgery days later. Parnell, 30, probably
won't be ready to pitch at the start of the 2015 season.

C Wilson Ramos and the Nationals avoided arbitration, agreeing to a
one-year, $3.55 million deal on Jan. 15. Ramos, 27, missed time last
season with a fractured hamate bone and a hamstring strain. He hit
.267/.299/.399 with 11 home runs and 47 RBIs in just 88 games. He
remains under team control through 2016.

MLB Note - Washington Nationals Stammen, Craig
RHP Craig Stammen and the Nationals avoided arbitration, agreeing to
a one-year, $2.25 million deal on Jan. 15. Stammen, 30, is in his
third year of arbitration, but, because he qualified for Super 2
status, with get a fourth year of arbitration in 2016. Over 72 2/3
innings last season, he posted a 3.84 ERA but had career-best 4.00
strikeout-to-walk ratio.

RHP Hector Noesi and the White Sox avoided arbitration, agreeing to
a one-year, $1.95 million deal on Jan. 15. Noesi, 27, went 8-12 with
a 4.75 ERA with the White Sox, Rangers and Mariners last season. He
was traded from Seattle to Texas on April 12, designated for
assignment by the Rangers on April 22 and claimed off waivers by the
White Sox on April 25. He pitched in a career-high 33 games. Noesi
is expected to be Chicago's fifth starter this year.

He is 12-5 with a 3.55 ERA in 137 appearances over three seasons
with the White Sox.
