Chicago Blackhawks winger Daniel Carcillo was suspended for six games by the NHL on Monday for a cross-check that injured Winnipeg Jets forward Mathieu Perreault on Friday.

It is the ninth time Carcillo has been suspended in his nine NHL seasons, and the time off will cost him about $40,000.

His history of suspensions and fines (three) led to the more severe penalty this time. Cross-checking is usually handled with an in-game penalty.

The Jets said Perreault is out at least through the All-Star break.

--Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Matt Carle will undergo surgery to repair torn adductor muscles in his lower abdomen on Tuesday, the team announced.

The procedure will be performed in Philadelphia by Dr. William Meyers.

Carle is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.

Carle has four goals and 10 assists in 46 games this season.

--The Columbus Blue Jackets activated right winger Jack Skille off injured reserve.

Skille, who has missed the past four games after suffering a lower-body injury at Toronto on Jan. 9, will be available to play in Monday night's game at Minnesota against the Wild.

--The Nashville Predators reassigned forward Viktor Stalberg to the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League.

Stalberg, 29, has appeared in 10 games with Nashville this season, recording three assists.

--The Buffalo Sabres reassigned forwards Matt Ellis and Philip Varone to the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.

Ellis, 33, is scoreless in four NHL games this season. Varone, 24, has two goals in seven NHL games this season.
