Obituary
Thomas John “T.J.” Cosgrove, 66, of Lincoln, passed
away at 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at
Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln.
T.J. was born on September 22, 1948 in Clinton, IL,
son of Patrick Allen and Violet Mae (Kidd) Cosgrove.
He was united in marriage to Susan Dougherty on
October 24, 1970 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in
Lincoln. She survives him in Lincoln. He is also
survived by his children: Jeff (Jody) Cosgrove of
Plainfield, IL; and Beth Ann (Josh) Greene of
McCordsville, IN; grandchildren: Kevin and Chloe
Cosgrove; Neely, Maeve, Tula, and Wren Greene;
siblings: Mike (Pat) Cosgrove of Chesterfield, MO,
Steve (Sheree) Cosgrove of Auburn, AL, Patty (John)
Bingaman of Champaign, IL, and Dave (Beth) Cosgrove
of Nashville, TN; and many nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by his parents and his
grandchild: Rowan Dougherty Greene.
T.J. graduated from St. Mary’s Grade school in 1962,
Champaign High School in 1966, and he attained a
Bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University
Carbondale in 1970.
He was a real estate agent for Doris and Associates
and Diane Schriber Realty for many years and he
retired from the Illinois Dept. of Corrections after
30 years of service. |
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the
Lincoln Elks club where he served on the board of
the Elks Charitable Trust and was previously served
on the Elks Corporate Board. T.J. was an active
member of Holy Family Catholic Church, serving on
several committees for Carroll Catholic School and
for Holy Family Catholic Church.
T.J. loved taking vacations with his grandchildren,
traveling with his wife, maintaining a garden,
cheering for his beloved White Sox and the Bears,
and he was an avid golfer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00
a.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Holy Family
Catholic Church with Rev. Jeffrey Laible
officiating. A visitation will be held from 5-7:00
p.m. on Tuesday, January 20 at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln,
with a Rosary service at 4:30. Burial will be at
Holy Cross Cemetery in Lincoln. Memorials may be
made to Carroll Catholic School in Lincoln or to the
Donor’s Choice.
