LC came out strong taking the first set 25-22. Hannibal responded
with a 25-14 win in set two, but Lincoln was able to hold off a late
charge by HL in set three and won it 27-25. Set four saw Hannibal
jump out to an early lead and never trail on their way to a 25-19
win. This set up a deciding set to 15 for the match. Both teams
battled hard, but LC fell behind 8-12. The Lynx went on a three
point run to narrow the gap to only one point, but Hannibal (2-1)
managed a sideout then scored two quick points to win the set 15-11.

LC Coach Mark Tippett: I was very pleased by our performance in our
first match of the season. Considering the facts that we have an all
freshman team, playing on the road in their first college match and
going up against a more experienced and very atheltic varsity team,
I would say we did pretty well for ourselves. I was most impressed
by the way we handled their jump serves. Our passers did an
outstanding job of controlling the first contact and giving our
setter and hitters a chance to run the offense.

Hannibal had a right side hitter who was an outstanding attacker
from both the front row and in the back row. We did our best to
contain him, but he made a huge difference in the match. Overall
though, we were all very pleased by how well our team competed, and
I know the guys are looking forward to the rematch with HL at home
in a couple of weeks.
Lincoln will compete in a club tournament at Augustana University on
Saturday and will have their home opener on Tuesday evening, January
27th at 6:30 pm against the Lindenwood-Belleville varsity team.
