01/26/2015 MLB Note - Detroit Tigers Alburquerque, Al
RHP Al Alburquerque and the Tigers avoided arbitration, agreeing to
a one-year, $1,725,000 contract on Jan. 26. He was seeking a $2.05
million deal, while the team countered with a $1,375,000 offer.
Alburquerque, 28, went 3-1 with one save and a 2.51 ERA in 72 relief
appearances for Detroit last year.

MLB Note - San Francisco Giants Vogelsong, Ryan
RHP Ryan Vogelsong, who came close to signing with the Astros,
instead re-signed with the Giants, receiving a one-year, $4 million
deal on Jan. 23. "I'm back where I wanted to be and back where my
family wanted to be," he said. "I've told you (media) guys in the
past that I've always considered myself a Giant. Even when I took my
little detour there, there's not really any place I'd rather play."
Vogelsong, 37, was part of the World Series-winning rotations with
the Giants in 2012 and 2014. He went 8-13 with a 4.00 ERA in 32
starts last year, then had no decisions and a 6.57 ERA in four
postseason games (three starts). Over 10 major league seasons split
between the Pirates and the Giants, Vogelsong has a career 49-57
record with a 4.42 ERA in 232 games (143 starts).

MLB Note - Miami Marlins Suzuki, Ichiro
OF Ichiro Suzuki, who is 156 hits shy of 3,000 for his major league
career, will try to reach the landmark with the Marlins. The
41-year-old veteran agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal with Miami
on Jan. 23. Suzuki more playing time than expected for the Yankees
last year and hit .284/.324/.340 with one homer, 22 RBIs and 15
stolen bases in 359 at-bats.

MLB Note - Oakland Athletics Sogard, Eric
INF Eric Sogard reached a contract agreement with the A's on Jan. 23
and avoided arbitration with a one-year, $1,075,000 deal. Sogard had
asked for $1.425 million, and the A's offered $900,000 when they
exchanged arbitration figures. He made $510,000 in 2014. Last season
in 117 games for the A's, Sogard batted .223/.298/.268 with one home
run and 22 RBIs. He split time between second base (80 starts) and
shortstop (12). The 28-year-old has seven career home runs, 68 RBIs
and a .235/.296/.317 batting line since 2010.

MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Fowler, Dexter
OF Dexter Fowler and the Cubs avoided arbitration, reaching
agreement Jan. 23 on a one-year, $9.5 million contract. Before he
was traded to Chicago on Jan. 19, Fowler and the Astros exchanged
arbitration figures. The team offered $8.5 million, and Fowler
wanted $10.8 million. Fowler, a 28-year-old who will become a free
agent after the 2015 season, made $7.35 million last year.
Last season with the Astros, Fowler batted .276 with eight home runs
in 116 games.

MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Germen, Gonzalez
RHP Gonzalez Germen's stay with the Rangers lasted three days. He
headed to his fourth team in a month when the Cubs acquired him off
waivers from the Rangers on Jan. 23. Texas acquired him from the
Yankees on Jan. 20 in a cash transaction. Germen, 27, was acquired
by the Yankees from the Mets in a cash deal on Dec. 19. In 25 relief
appearances with the Mets last season, Germen had no decisions, a
4.75 ERA and a 1.451 WHIP in 30 1/3 innings. Germen pitched 18 times
in relief for Triple-A Las Vegas last year, going 3-1 with a 2.38
ERA and six saves.

MLB Note - Texas Rangers Moreland, Mitch
DH Mitch Moreland and the Rangers avoided arbitration, settling on a
one-year, $2.95 million contract Jan. 23. The deal includes a
possible $25,000 in additional incentives. Moreland requested $3.35
million, and the Rangers offered $2.75 million. He made $2.65
million last season. The 29-year-old sustained a season-ending ankle
injury in early June and underwent surgery. He played in 52 games
last year and batted .246/.297/.347 with two home runs and 23 RBIs.

MLB Note - Texas Rangers Ohlendorf, Ross
RHP Ross Ohlendorf and the Rangers agreed Jan. 23 to a minor league
contract that includes an invitation to spring training. He never
pitched in the majors last year, making just five minor league
starts while rehabbing a right lumbar strain. Over six major league
seasons with four teams, Ohlendorf has a 22-33 record and a 4.88 ERA
in 124 games (80 starts).

MLB Note - Oakland Athletics Doolittle, Sean
LHP Sean Doolittle is expected to miss the start of the season
because of a slight rotator cuff tear in his left shoulder. It is
not believed that the All-Star reliever will need surgery. The plan
is for rest and a strengthening program. Doolittle began to
experience discomfort in December after he began an offseason
throwing program. He received an platelet-rich plasma injection in
hopes that it would help with the inflammation and irritation in the
shoulder. The A's have no timetable for Doolittle's return.
Doolittle, 28, was sidelined late last season with an intercostal
strain. He finished the year with a 2-4 record, a 2.73 ERA and 22
saves in 61 appearances.

MLB Note - New York Yankees Rodriguez, Alex
3B Alex Rodriguez, who sat out last year due to a season-long
steroids suspension, met with new commissioner Rob Manfred in
January to clear the air. The New York Post reported the meeting
took place and sources confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com it was an effort
to find some closure after the Biogenesis case. According to the
reports, Rodriguez initiated the get-together and there were no
lawyers on hand.
The Yankees owe Rodriguez $61 million over the next three years.
During the offseason, Yankees GM Brian Cashman said he does not know
what type of player the 39-year-old A-Rod will be this year, so the
club signed Chase Headley for four years and $52 million to play
Rodriguez's position.

MLB Note - Minnesota Twins Duensing, Brian
LHP Brian Duensing and the Twins avoided arbitration, reaching
agreement Jan. 24 on a one-year, $2.7 million contract. The two
sides compromised after Duensing requested a $3.1 million salary and
the team offer $2.4 million. Duensing is eligible to become a free
agent after the 2015 season. Duensing, 31, pitched in 62 games and
posted a 3-3 record with a 3.31 ERA in 54 1/3 innings last year.

MLB Note - Atlanta Braves Perez, Eury
OF Eury Perez, designated for assignment by the Yankees on Jan. 16,
was claimed off waivers by the Braves on Jan. 23. Perez, 24, went
2-for-10 with no RBIs and one stolen base in four games for New York
last season. He hit .311/.372/.409 with two homers, 15 RBIs and 26
stolen bases in 57 games for Triple-A Syracuse before he was claimed
off waivers by the Yankees from the Nationals in September.
