The Lynx took on the Lindenwood-Belleville varsity team
(NAIA DI) and lost in four sets. LC was able to score early and
build leads in both of the first two sets, but Lindenwood did not
get rattled and managed late comebacks to win the first set 25-22
and the second 26-24. In set three, Lincoln found their rhythm and
never trailed on their way to a 25-19 win. The Lynx (4-4) were
unable to keep the momentum going in set four though and dropped it
17-25.
LC Stat totals:
Adam Krzos 6 kills, 5 digs, 7 points
Wes Higgenbotham 10 kills, 2 blocks
Lukasz Kupiec 28 set assists, 3 digs
Alex Robles 6 kills, 5 points, 9 digs
Alec Esparza 10 digs, 9 points
Manny Benitez 12 kills
Josue Ramirez 9 points, 6 digs
Michael Wesley 5 kills
LC Coach Mark Tippett: I was very pleased by how well we competed
against an experinced team like Lindenwood. They had a roster full
of upperclassmen and our team hung right with them. We let late
leads slip away from us in the first two sets, which is a sign of
our inexperience. We made a few unforced errors that stopped us from
extending leads early in both sets and those mistakes came back to
haunt us. The good news is that we played well enough to build leads
in the first place and in set three we showed that we can control a
set from start to finish. It is a big accomplishment for a first
year program to even be competitive right away and we certainly have
achieved that goal. Now we just have to figure out how to finish
teams off and the wins will follow.
Lincoln is off until February 5th when they will host the University
of Illinois Club team in a 7 p.m. match. |
