01/29/2015 MLB Note - Miami Marlins Suzuki, Ichiro
OF Ichiro Suzuki, who is 156 hits shy of 3,000 for his major league
career, will try to reach the landmark with the Marlins. The
41-year-old veteran finalized a one-year, $2 million deal with Miami
on Jan. 27. Suzuki received more playing time than expected for the
Yankees last year and hit .284/.324/.340 with one homer, 22 RBIs and
15 stolen bases in 359 at-bats.

MLB Note - Chicago White Sox Viciedo, Dayan
LF Dayan Viciedo was designated for assignment by the White Sox on
Jan. 28 to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for newly re-signed INF
Gordon Beckham.
The move came two weeks after the team signed Viciedo to a one-year
deal worth $4.4 million to avoid arbitration. Viciedo, 25, hit
.231/.281/.405 with 21 home runs and 58 RBIs in 145 games last
season. The White Sox reportedly are trying to trade him.

MLB Note - Chicago White Sox Beckham, Gordon
INF Gordon Beckham returned to the White Sox on Jan. 28, signing a
one-year, $2 million deal to return to the team that traded him to
the Angels in August. He was non-tendered by Los Angeles on Dec. 2,
making him a free agent.
Beckham, 28, played his first five-plus seasons with the White Sox.
He figures to compete for time at second base or be used as a
utility infielder. "Adding Gordon improves the depth and flexibility
of our roster," Chicago GM Rick Hahn said
Since a solid rookie season in 2009, Beckham has become known more
for his defense. He hit just .226/.271/.348 with nine home runs and
44 RBIs in 127 games last season with the White Sox and Angels. He
has a .245/.307/.375 career batting line with 63 home runs and 264
RBIs.

MLB Note - Toronto Blue Jays Janssen, Casey
RHP Casey Janssen and the Nationals agreed to a one-year, $3.5
million contract on Jan. 28. The deal includes a mutual option for
$7 million in 2016 with a buyout of $1.5 million, according to
multiple reports. Janssen, 33, posted 81 saves and a 2.94 ERA for
the Blue Jays the past three years, including 34 saves in 2013 and
25 in 2014. He struggled in the second half of last season after
becoming ill during the All-Star break, and he finished with a 3.94
ERA in 45 2/3 innings.
With the Nationals, the right-hander is likely to provide
late-inning relief help in front of closer Drew Storen. The
Washington bullpen lost LHP Ross Detwiler, RHP Rafael Soriano and
RHP Tyler Clippard to other teams during the winter.

MLB Note - Los Angeles Angels Freese, David
3B David Freese and the Angels avoided arbitration, reaching
agreement on a one-year, $6,425,000 contract on Jan. 28. The sides
split the difference between Freese's request of $7.6 million and
the team's offer of $5.25 million. In his first season with the
Angels in 2014 after being acquired from the Cardinals, Freese
batted .260/.321/.383 with 10 homers and 55 RBIs in 134 games.

MLB Note - Atlanta Braves Toscano, Dian
OF Dian Toscano signed a four-year, $6 million deal on Jan. 28. The
contract includes a $1.2 million signing bonus, and Atlanta has a
$1.7 million option for 2019, with a $200,000 buyout. Toscano, a
25-year-old left-handed hitter, batted .356 in 2012-13 for Villa
Clara in Cuba's top league.
He joins Jonny Gomes, Zoilo Almonte and Eury Perez in a battle for
the Braves' left field position.

MLB Note - Atlanta Braves Constanza, Jose
OF Jose Constanza was designated for assignment by the Braves on
Jan. 28 to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for newly signed OF
Dian Toscano.
Constanza, 31, went 0-for-4 in 12 games with Atlanta in 2014. He
spent the bulk of the season with Triple-A Gwinnett, hitting
.293/.344/.324 with no homers, 36 RBIs and 30 stolen bases in 111
games.

MLB Note - San Francisco Giants Scutaro, Marco
2B Marco Scutaro, designated for assignment by the Giants on Jan.
22, was released by the team on Jan. 28. Scutaro, 39, is recovering
from spinal fusion surgery in December that could be career-ending.
Doctors said it will be four to six months before they know whether
Scutaro will be able to resume playing. In the meantime, the Giants
plan to keep working with Scutaro on his rehab. Scutaro is scheduled
to make $6 million in 2015, the final year of a three-year, $20
million contract he signed in 2012. The 2012 National League
Championship Series MVP played in only five games last season
because of the bad back.

MLB Note - Miami Marlins Caminero, Arquimedes
RHP Arquimedes Caminero was designated for assignment by the Marlins
on Jan. 28 to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for newly signed OF
Ichiro Suzuki. Caminero, 27, went 0-1 with a 10.80 ERA in six relief
appearances for Miami in 2014. He spent most of last season with
Triple-A New Orleans, going 4-1 with 10 saves and a 4.86 ERA in 42
relief outings.
