01/30/2015 MLB Note - San Francisco Giants Dominguez, Chris
OF Chris Dominguez was designated for assignment on Jan. 29, as the
Giants removed him from the 40-man roster. Dominguez, 28, made his
major league debut last season, going 1-for-17 (.059) with a homer
and two RBIs in eight games for San Francisco. He spent the bulk of
the season with Triple-A Fresno, hitting .274/.307/.460 with 21
homers and 85 RBIs in 131 games.

MLB Note - Pittsburgh Pirates Elmore, Jake
SS Jake Elmore, designated for assignment by the Pirates on Jan. 20,
cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis on Jan.
29. Pittsburgh acquired Elmore off waivers from Cincinnati in
November after the Reds outrighted him off their roster. Elmore, 27,
went 2-for-11 in five games for Cincinnati last year. He hit
.281/.376/.345 with no homers and 24 RBIs in 72 Triple-A games in
2014.

MLB Note - Seattle Mariners Baker, John
C John Baker, non-tendered by the Cubs on Dec. 2, signed a minor
league deal with the Mariners on Jan. 29. Seattle invited him to its
major league spring camp. Baker, 34, hit .192/.273/.231 with no
homers and 15 RBIs in 68 games for Chicago last year. He likely will
compete with Jesus Sucre in a spring training battle to be Mike
Zunino's backup.

MLB Note - Philadelphia Phillies Jimenez, Cesar
LHP Cesar Jimenez was designated for assignment by the Phillies on
Jan. 29 to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for newly signed RHP
Chad Billingsley. Jimenez, 30, had no decisions and a 1.69 ERA in 16
relief appearances for Philadelphia last year. He went 3-2 with a
three saves and a 1.45 ERA in 38 appearances for Triple-A Lehigh
Valley in 2014. In five major league seasons for the Mariners and
Phillies, Jimenez is 2-3 with a 4.32 ERA in 78 games (three starts).

MLB Note - Philadelphia Phillies Billingsley, Chad
RHP Chad Billingsley, who missed the 2014 season while recovering
from flexor tendon surgery on his right elbow, signed a one-year,
$1.5 million contract with the Phillies on Jan. 29. Performance
incentives could boost the value of the deal to $8 million. It is
uncertain if he will be healthy enough to make the Opening Day
roster. Billingsley, 30, pitched in just two games at the start of
the 2013 season before he was sidelined after undergoing Tommy John
surgery. Billingsley, a All-Star in 2009, has a 81-61 record with a
3.65 ERA in 219 career games, including 190 starts for the Dodgers.
He won between 10 and 16 games each year from 2007 to 2012.

MLB Note - Milwaukee Brewers Cotts, Neal
LHP Neal Cotts and the Brewers agreed to a one-year, $3 million
contract, according to reports on Jan. 29. The Milwaukee pitching
staff is short on left-handed relievers after losing Zach Duke and
Tom Gorzelanny through free agency during the offseason. Cotts, 34,
bounced back from elbow and hip injuries that kept him off the mound
from 2010 through 2012. In 2013, he posted an 8-3 record with a 1.11
ERA in 58 games for Texas. Last year, he was not as effective,
slipping to 2-9 with two saves and a 4.32 ERA in 73 appearances for
the Rangers. In 415 career appearances, Cotts has a 20-24 record
with a 4.05 ERA for the White Sox, Cubs and Rangers.

OF Jayson Werth pleaded guilty to reckless driving Jan. 29 and was
sentenced to five days in jail. Werth was clocked driving 105 mph on
the Capital Beltway in Washington last July. He was convicted last
month in Fairfax County, Va., and sentenced to 10 days in jail, but
he appealed. He entered a guilty plea for a shorter sentence,
according to the Washington Post. He is expected to serve the
sentence on weekends as he rehabilitates from shoulder surgery.

MLB Note - Toronto Blue Jays Belisario, Ronald
RHP Ronald Belisario signed a minor league contract with the Blue
Jays on Jan. 29 and received an invitation to the team's major
league spring camp. Belisario, 32, struggled last season with the
White Sox, posting a 4-8 record with eight saves while giving up 46
runs in 66 1/3 innings for a 5.56 ERA. However, he had a 3.24 ERA
and a 13-8 record in 139 innings during the 2012 and 2013 seasons
with the Dodgers. The Blue Jays are in need of middle-inning relief
help after the departure of RHP Casey Janssen through free agency.
Sportsnet reported that Belisario's deal would be for $1.7 million
if he makes the roster.

MLB Note - Toronto Blue Jays Santiago, Ramon
INF Ramon Santiago signed a minor league contract with the Blue Jays
on Jan. 29 and received an invitation to the team's major league
spring camp. Santiago, 35, batted .246/.343/.324 with two home runs
and 17 RBIs in 75 games for the Reds last season after previously
playing a utility role for the Tigers. He is a career .243/.314/.330
hitter with 30 homers and 214 RBIs in 920 games for the Reds, Tigers
and Mariners.
