NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES: Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway.

THEN AND NOW: Aric Almirola won this race last year, thanks to rain that shortened the event. The win was not only Almirola's first career Sprint Cup victory, it also earned him a place in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Almirola finds himself in a similar situation heading into Sunday's race: he still has yet to win a race in 2015 and is looking to do so to make the Chase again. ... Kyle Busch is coming off his first win of the season this past Sunday at Sonoma, Calif. Busch becomes the 11th different driver to win a race in 2015. There are only five open spots remaining to make the Chase, with 10 races left to qualify before the field is set after the September race at Richmond. ... With Martin Truex Jr. suffering his worst outing of the season at Sonoma, when he was hooked from behind and forced into a tire wall, Kevin Harvick saw his lead in the Sprint Cup standings jump from a 15-point lead over Truex to a massive 53-point edge heading into Daytona. Daytona 500 winner Joey Logano is ranked third, 57 points behind Harvick, while Jimmie Johnson is fourth (70 points back) and Dale Earnhardt Jr. is fifth (71 points behind).

NASCAR XFINITY SERIES: Subway Firecracker 250 at Daytona International Speedway.

TV: Saturday, July 4, 7:15 pm ET - NBCSN (Radio: Motor Racing Network/SiriusXM Channel 90).

THEN AND NOW: The NASCAR Xfinity Series was off last weekend. ... Chris Buescher remains atop the points standings, holding a 29-point edge over No. 2-ranked Ty Dillon, and a 45-point lead over No. 3-ranked and defending series champion Chase Elliott, who remains winless after 14 races. ... Saturday's race marks the start of 16 consecutive weeks of racing before the final off-weekend of the season.

NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES: The Camping World Truck Series once again is off this weekend. The next race is the UNOH 225 on July 9 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Ky. ... Points leader Matt Crafton holds a 12-point edge over No. 2-ranked Tyler Reddick, and a 26-point margin over No. 3-ranked Erik Jones.

VERIZON INDYCAR SERIES: The IndyCar Series enjoys this weekend off before returning to action on July 12 at State Fair Park in West Allis, Wisc. (suburban Milwaukee). ... Graham Rahal, son of former Indianapolis 500 winner and CART champion Bobby Rahal, won this past Saturday in a wild MAVTV 500 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. Tony Kanaan finished second, while Marco Andretti finished third. ... Five races remain on the schedule: three ovals (Milwaukee, Iowa and Pocono) and two road courses (Mid-Ohio and the season finale in Sonoma). ... As he has since the first race of the season (which he won in St. Petersburg, Fla.), Juan Pablo Montoya remains No. 1 in the point standings. He leads Will Power by 46 points (up from 27 points going into Sonoma) and Scott Dixon by 49 points.

NATIONAL HOT ROD ASSOCIATION MELLO YELLO DRAG RACING SERIES: Summit Racing Equipment Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park; Norwalk, Ohio.

TV: Final day of qualifying, Saturday, July 4, ESPN (tape delay), 10 pm ET to 12 am ET. Final eliminations, Sunday, July 5, ESPN (LIVE), 1-4 pm ET.

Then and Now: After a weekend off, the NHRA returns to action on the holiday weekend with one of the bigger and most popular races on the schedule, the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio. ... This weekend's race begins a stretch of five races in six weeks, including Norwalk, Chicago the following weekend, followed by the annual three-race "Western Swing" that visits Denver, Sonoma (Calif.) and Seattle. ... Antron Brown remains atop the Top Fuel standings, but saw his 33-point lead over Schumacher drop to just 2 points after Bristol, two weeks ago. Crampton is third in the standings (72 points back). In Funny Car, Matt Hagan increased his lead over Ron Capps from 61 to 87 points after Bristol, while No. 3-ranked John Force fell from 94 to 153 points behind Hagan. In Pro Stock, Erica Enders regained the points lead and now leads No. 2-ranked Greg Anderson by 14 points, while No. 3-ranked Jason Line is a distant 136 points back.
