[July 02, 2015]  ST. LOUIS -- Chris Sale tied a 16-year old major league record and even picked up his first big league hit but wasn't around when Tyler Flowers hit a two-out solo home run in the top of the 11th inning that gave the Chicago White Sox a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Sale finished with 12 strikeouts in eight innings, marking the eighth straight game with at least 10 strikeouts. Sale tied the mark set by Boston's Pedro Martinez from Aug. 19-Sept. 27, 1999

St. Louis starter Lance Lynn allowed one run and six hits in six innings.

The Cardinals (51-25) saw their six-game winning streak end and lost for just the eighth time in 37 home games.

Indians 6, Rays 2

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Danny Salazar took a perfect game into the sixth inning, and Cleveland pitched its second consecutive combined two-hitter in a victory over Tampa Bay.

Salazar's perfect game bid ended when he walked shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera to open the sixth. Following a double play, catcher Curt Casali broke up the no-hit bid.

Third baseman Giovanny Urshela and designated hitter David Murphy hit late home runs for Cleveland. Tampa Bay's Erasmo Ramirez allowed one run and two hits in 5 2/3 innings

Marlins 5, Giants 3

MIAMI -- Second baseman Dee Gordon hit a three-run inside-the-park home run to lead the Miami past the San Francisco.

It was the first inside-the-park homer in Marlins Park history and the first in Gordon's career. The last Marlins player to do it was outfielder Cameron Maybin on May 31, 2010.

Buster Posey hit his 12th home run of the season for San Francisco.

Nationals 6, Braves 1

ATLANTA -- Jordan Zimmerman pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings and first baseman Clint Robinson hit a home run in a four-run first inning as Washington remained hot with a win over Atlanta.

The Nationals won for the ninth time in 10 games as Zimmerman allowed five hits and did allow multiple base runners in an inning until the eighth.

Atlanta's Shelby Miller allowed five runs (four earned) and eight hits in five innings.

Rangers 8, Orioles 6

BALTIMORE -- Mitch Moreland hit two two-run home runs and Texas outslugged Baltimore.

Robinson Chirinos and Shin-Soo Choo added solo home runs for Texas, which hit four home runs for the second straight game.

Chris Davis hit two home runs for Baltimore and Manny Machado added a solo homer.

Cubs 1, Mets 0

NEW YORK -- Right-hander Kyle Hendricks combined with three relievers on a three-hitter and Matt Szcur's sixth-inning double drove in the only run in Chicago's win over New York.

The Cubs (40-35) won despite scoring two runs or fewer for the sixth straight game. The Mets (40-38) had a four-game winning streak snapped as they scored two runs or fewer for the 10th time in the last 12 games.

New York left-hander Jonathan Niese allowed one run on four hits in seven hits.

Red Sox 4, Blue Jays 3

TORONTO -- David Ortiz and Jackie Bradley Jr. hit home runs as Boston beat Toronto for the second straight night.

Boston left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez allowed one run and four hits in six innings and Koji Uehara pitched a perfect ninth for his 18th save of the season.

Toronto right-hander Marco Estrada allowed four runs (two earned) and three hits in 2 1/3 innings. Estrada had won his previous four starts.

Astros 4, Royals 0

HOUSTON -- Dallas Keuchel became the second pitcher to reach double digit wins by pitching eight outstanding innings in Houston's blanking of Kansas City.

Keuchel allowed seven hits and struck out seven without a walk in eight innings. Keuchel joined Seattle right-hander Felix Hernandez as the only American League pitchers with 10 wins.

Kansas City's Danny Duffy allowed four runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Brewers 4, Phillies 3

PHILADELPHIA -- Aramis Ramirez drove in three runs, including the go-ahead single in the eighth inning and Milwaukee edged Philadelphia.

Philadelphia starter Cole Hamels allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings.

Mariners 5, Padres 0

SAN DIEGO -- Rookie Mike Montgomery threw a one-hitter for his second consecutive shutout, leading Seattle to a win over San Diego.

Montgomery (3-2) walked four, hit a batter and struck out seven in his sixth career start. The left-hander, who turns 26 on Wednesday, fired a five-hitter against the Kansas City Royals on June 23.

San Diego's only hit came with one out in the seventh inning when third baseman Yangervis Solarte laced a double to left field.

Twins 8, Reds 5

CINCINNATI -- Torii Hunter collected three hits, including a home run, to lead Minnesota past Cincinnati.

Hunter started the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning, providing early run support for Phil Hughes, who allowed four runs (two earned) in 6 2/3 innings.

Marlon Byrd and Eugenio Suarez each hit solo homers for Cincinnati, which lost for the fourth time in five games.

Pirates 5, Tigers 4 (14 innings)

DETROIT -- Neil Walker lined a two-out RBI double to score Josh Harrison from second base in the 14th inning, giving Pittsburgh a victory over Detroit.

Tom Gorzelanny (1-2), the seventh reliever used by Detroit, saw his outside 3-2 delivery rifled down the right field line, and Harrison trotted home easily.

Deolis Guerra (1-0), the sixth reliever employed by Pittsburgh, got the win.

Angels 2, Yankees 1

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Andrew Heaney gave up just two hits in seven innings, leading Los Angeles to a win over New York.

It was just the second big league start of the season for the 24-year-old lefty, who was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake on June 24. The only run he allowed came on a home run from Mark Teixeira in the second inning. Heaney recorded his first big league win.

The Angels offense didn't do much with Yankees starter Ivan Nova, but back-to-back home runs by Albert Pujols and Erick Aybar in the sixth were enough to help Los Angeles win its fourth in a row.

Dodgers 6, Diamondbacks 4 (10 innings)

PHOENIX -- Howie Kendrick homered to open the 10th inning, and Yasmani Grandal added a two-out, two-run double in Los Angeles' victory over Arizona.

Kendrick, whose four hits included a game-tying single in the seventh inning, hit a 1-0 pitch from David Hernandez (0-1) for his seventh homer of the season.

Grandal hit a two-run homer in the second inning, his 12th of the season, and had four RBIs. Both of the switch-hitting catcher's hits were to the opposite field.

Rockies 2, Athletics 1

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Jorge De La Rosa pitched seven shutout innings, and Colorado ended its three-game losing streak with a victory over Oakland.

The Rockies won an interleague game for the first time this season after losing their first seven. They also ended their streak of 14 consecutive interleague road losses, which fell one shy of tying the major league record.

Nolan Arenado extended his hitting streak to 17 games, the longest active streak in the major leagues, with a fourth-inning single. Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki extended his hitting streak to 14 games -- baseball's second longest -- with a fourth-inning single.
