The Chicago Cubs reportedly will recall catcher Kyle Schwarber from Triple-A Iowa on Friday and place catcher Miguel Montero on the 15-day disabled list.

Montero will see a hand specialist about a thumb injury on Friday, ESPN.com reported.

Schwarber was MVP of the recent Futures Game and was successful in an earlier stint this season with the Cubs, hitting .364 (8-for-22) with a home run, triple and six RBIs in six games.

Schwarber is expected to back up David Ross and Taylor Teagarden.

---The Atlanta Braves signed reliever Jason Frasor after the veteran right-hander was released by the Kansas City Royals earlier this week, according to FOXSports.com.

Frasor had a 1.54 ERA in 23 innings for the Royals, but he also walked 15 for a Kansas City bullpen loaded with talented arms. The 37-year-old joins a Braves team that was looking for veteran bullpen help following the season-ending Achilles injury suffered by closer Jason Grilli.

---Pitcher Michael Kopech, a first-round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox in 2014, has been suspended 50 games for using a banned stimulant.

The right-hander tested positive for Oxilofrine, Major League Baseball announced Thursday.

Kopech, 19, is 4-5 with a 2.63 ERA in 15 starts at Class A Greenville.
