The first-place Nationals extended their lead to three games over
the second-place Mets, who have lost their last three games to
Washington after going 4-15 against the Nationals in 2014.
New York was coming off a 3-1 win in 18 innings on Sunday in St.
Louis.
Gonzalez, who gave up six hits and two walks, was making his first
start since July 10 at Baltimore and just his third this month.
Pirates 10, Royals 7
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Travis Ishikawa had four RBIs and Neil Walker
hit a key two-run triple in the eighth as Pittsburgh held off Kansas
City.
The Royals scored three runs in the seventh, sending starter A.J.
Burnett to the showers and cutting the Pirates advantage to one-run.
The inning began with Mike Moustakas' ninth home run.
But Walker supplied the antidote with a two-run triple in the
eighth. Burnett picked up the victory, although he allowed six runs
on 11 hits.
Tigers 5, Mariners 4
DETROIT -- Ian Kinsler blasted two home runs, including a go-ahead
two-run shot in the eighth to lead Detroit over Seattle.
Kinsler's two-out game-winner over the left-field wall was the first
home run allowed by Seattle reliever Mark Lowe this season. Kinsler
added a solo shot in the first inning.
Al Alburquerque pitched an inning of scoreless relief to get the win
while Joakim Soria collected his 21st save.
Braves 7, Dodgers 5
ATLANTA -- Jace Peterson broke out of an extended dry spell with two
hits and three RBIs to help the Atlanta defeat Los Angeles at Turner
Field.
Peterson, batting just .161 since June 20, had a bases-loaded double
to drive in two runs in the fourth. He singled home another run in
the sixth as the Braves ended a two-game losing streak.
The winning pitcher was rookie Matt Wisler, who allowed four runs on
eight hits in six innings with two strikeouts.
Phillies 5, Rays 3
PHILADELPHIA -- David Buchanan ended a personal eight-game losing
streak as Philadelphia beat Tampa Bay.
Cesar Hernandez had a two-run double for the Phillies, whose
four-game winning streak is their longest since they won six
straight in May.
Buchanan had not won since beating Houston on Aug. 6, 16 starts ago.
On Monday, he went 6 1/3 innings and allowed three runs and six
hits, while striking out four and walking three.
Reds 5, Cubs 4
CINCINNATI -- Jay Bruce hit a go-ahead, two-run home run in the
bottom of the sixth inning lifting Cincinnati over Chicago in the
opener of a three-game series at Great American Ball Park.
Marlon Byrd and third baseman Todd Frazier also homered for the Reds
off Cubs starter Clayton Richard.
Ryan Mattheus earned the victory for the Reds.

Angels 11-7, Red Sox 1-3
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Albert Pujols hit three home runs, one in the
first game and two more in the second, and the Angels swept the Red
Sox in a doubleheader.
Now the league leader with 29 homers, Pujols went 4-for-7 with four
RBIs in the two games.
The Angels have won five in a row and 11 of their last 13. The Red
Sox have lost six of seven.
Rockies 8, Rangers 7
DENVER -- Colorado saw an early seven-run lead vanish, but it beat
Texas on a single by Ben Paulsen with one out in the ninth inning.
The Rangers tied the game in the top of the ninth when Adrian Beltre
lashed an RBI double into the left field corner, his third
consecutive hit.
In the bottom of the ninth, Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez
singled. One out later, Paulsen drove a game-winning single into the
gap in left-center.
Diamondbacks 3, Marlins 1
PHOENIX -- David Peralta hit a two-run single, and Rubby De La Rosa
continued his mastery of Miami in Arizona's win.
Peralta's two-out, two-run single broke a scoreless tie in the third
inning.
De La Rosa limited the Marlins to five hits and one run in seven
innings. He induced four double-play grounders as the Diamondbacks
broke a season-worst, six-game losing streak. De La Rosa (7-5)
walked five and struck out one.
Padres 4, Giants 2
SAN DIEGO -- Matt Kemp's two-run homer in the third inning led the
Padres to their fifth straight win while helping to end the Giants'
six-game winning streak.
Ian Kennedy (5-9) claimed his first victory since June 18, snapping
a four-game skid. He pitched six innings and was charged with two
runs on six hits and a walk.
Craig Kimbrel threw a four-pitch ninth for his 26th save in 27
chances.
Giants starter Tim Hudson (5-8) was pitching his first game since
June 26 after a disabled-list stint. In his first outing since
turning 40, Hudson worked four-plus innings and allowed three runs
on five hits and four walks.
