4-H offers free summer youth programs

[June 06, 2015]  LINCOLN - Logan County 4-H has several youth development programs planned this summer focusing on science and fitness/healthy living. Due to the generosity of grant funding from the Illinois 4-H Foundation, the following programs will be offered free of charge and children ages six and older are welcome to register to attend! Events will also be held at a variety of locations around the county.

Mix It Up! Be a 4-H Kitchen Chemist

How often do you get to play with your food? “Mix it Up! Be a 4-H Kitchen Chemist” will give you the opportunity to play with your food, but become a scientist too. You may do things such as mix your own slime and test the DNA of a strawberry. Did you know that taco sauce can clean a penny? That is just one of the many discoveries you may find out about!! (Minimum 5/Maximum 25 participants per site)

Scheduled locations

• June 25 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Elkhart Public Library
   
• June 30 from 9 a.m. to Noon at the New Holland Community Center
   
• July 17 from 11 a.m. to Noon at the Atlanta Public Library
   
• July 23 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Emden Community House

Under the 4-H Big Top

Welcome to “4-H Under the Big Top!” Discover how to juggle, make your hula hoops, walk the tight ropes and enjoy a yummy circus snack. Don’t let the circus pass you by! (Minimum 5/Maximum 25 participants per site)

Scheduled locations

• June 15, 16, 17 from 10 a.m. to Noon each day at the Logan County Extension Office
   
• June 19 from 11 a.m. to Noon at the Atlanta Public Library
   
• June 24 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Beason Methodist Church

Registration may also by done by calling the Logan County Extension Office at 217-732-8289 or stopping in at 980 N. Postville Drive, Lincoln (NW corner of Logan County Fairgrounds).
