Pocono, the Sprint Cup Series returns to the Irish Hills of Michigan
for Sunday's Quicken Loans 400. Jimmie Johnson won this race last
year, while teammate Jeff Gordon made it a Hendrick Motorsports
teammate sweep for the year when he won there in August. ... This
will be the 92nd Sprint Cup race held at MIS. ... Greg Biffle has
the most wins (4) among active drivers at MIS. ... Michigan is the
fastest non-restrictor plate track on the circuit. Jeff Gordon set
the qualifying record there last August (206.558 mph). It is not
unusual for cars to enter turns approaching 215 mph. ... Kevin
Harvick remains the leader atop the Sprint Cup points standings. He
leads second-ranked Martin Truex Jr. by 39 points (down from 44 last
week). Jimmie Johnson remains third, 78 points back, followed by
Joey Logano in fourth (-minus-79) and Dale Earnhardt Jr. in fifth
(minus-94).

action this Saturday at Michigan International Speedway. ... Sprint

This will mark the 24th Xfinity race at MIS over the years. ...
Chris Buescher maintains a very slim 15-point lead over Ty Dillon in
the Xfinity Series points standings. Defending series winner Chase
Elliott, who still has not earned his first win (had three last
season) is ranked third, 37 points behind Buescher. Regan Smith is
fourth, 47 points back, while Darrell Wallace Jr. is fifth, 49
points in arrears. ... Of the 12 Xfinity races thus far this season,
only three have been won by series regulars: two by Buescher and one
by Ryan Reed. Sprint Cup regular Joey Logano has dominated the
series with three wins thus far, followed by two wins each from
other Sprint Cup regulars Kevin Harvick and Austin Dillon.

THEN AND NOW: After being part of the IndyCar weekend at Texas Motor
Speedway last week, the Truck Series has a complete standalone race
by itself on Saturday evening at Gateway Motorsports Park, in
suburban St. Louis. It will be a very condensed day, with practice,
qualifying and the race all within 10 hours of each other. ... Last
year's race, which was won by Darrell Wallace Jr., was the first
NASCAR event held at Gateway since 2010. It proved to be so
successful that it was brought back on the schedule for this year.
... With his win at Texas last Friday, Matt Crafton increased his
lead in the Truck points standings to 25 over second-ranked Tyler
Reddick. Eric Jones is third (minus-32), followed by Johnny Sauter
(minus-48) and John Wes Townley (minus-78).

THEN AND NOW: Mike Conway was the surprise winner in this event last
year. ... Scott Dixon is coming off his second win of the season,
last Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway. Dixon joins points leader
Juan Pablo Montoya as the only drivers in the series with two wins
each through the first nine races of the season. ... Montoya
increased his lead in the point standings over teammate Will Power
from 21 to 35 points after Texas. With his win there, Dixon remains
in third in the standings, but is now just 41 points behind Montoya
(he had been 63 points back prior to Texas). Helio Castroneves
climbed back into fourth, 62 points behind Montoya, while Graham
Rahal fell back to fifth, going from 69 to 87 points behind Montoya.

New England Dragway. ... Courtney Force defeated father and 16-time
NHRA champion John Force for the first time in her career to win the
Funny Car class in last year's race. ... Other winners in last
year's event were Spencer Massey in Top Fuel, Allen Johnson in Pro
Stock and John Hall in Pro Stock Motorcycle. ... Winners in last
week's race at Englishtown, N.J., were Antron Brown (Top Fuel), Matt
Hagan (Funny Car), Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) and Jerry Savoie (Pro
Stock Motorcycle). ... Heading into this weekend's event, Brown is
atop the Top Fuel standings (118 points ahead of Tony Schumacher),
Hagan is 39 points ahead of Ron Capps in Funny Car, Anderson leads
defending Pro Stock champ Erica Enders by 22 points and Eddie
Krawiec has a 53-point edge over defending series champ Andrew Hines
in Pro Stock Motorcycle. Speaking of PSM, its next event isn't until
