The Glendale city council voted 5-2 on Wednesday to void a 15-year,
$225 million lease agreement with the Coyotes less than two years
after city approval. The city first tried to get the team to
renegotiate the deal on Tuesday.
"Why would we negotiate a deal that has 13 years remaining?" LeBlanc
said. "What we have witnessed here is possibly the most shameful
exhibition of government I have ever witnessed. We are going to take
every legal action. It is our right. It is a necessity. We have been
wronged by a group that is acting in incredibly bad faith."
The Coyotes have an "out" clause in their contract that they could
use to leave now, LeBlanc said, but he said, "We believe in this
market."
The NHL supported the Coyotes in a statement released Thursday: "The
National Hockey League stands by, and will fully support, the
Arizona Coyotes in their efforts to vindicate their contractual
rights in response to last night's outrageous and irresponsible
action by the City of Glendale. We continue to proceed on the basis
that the Coyotes will remain in Glendale and will be playing their
home games at Gila River Arena."

The Carolina Hurricanes have signed forward Lucas Wallmark to a
three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Thursday.
The deal includes a signing bonus of $225,000 and will pay Wallmark
$575,000 in 2015-16, $600,000 in 2016-17 and $650,000 in 2017-18.
Wallmark will receive $65,000 per season while in the American
Hockey League.
Wallmark, a 19-year-old native of Sweden, recorded five goals and 13
assists in 50 games with Lulea of the Swedish Hockey League in
2014-15. He led Lulea in playoff scoring (five assists) during a
first-round loss to Frolunda.
