LINCOLN
- Camp Griesheim Christian Retreat Center near Hartsburg, Illinois
will celebrate its 40th anniversary this summer. The former scout
camp was leased and renovated with a dedication on June 1, 1975. A
group of around 60 area people who had come to be involved with
Kogudus had met and decided to form a non-profit, non-denominational
organization.

A charter was written and the purpose of Camp Griesheim as stated
in the charter is to maintain and operate a Christian Retreat Center
which would be available to churches and Christian groups in holding
retreats, conferences, and meetings to share the Gospel of Jesus
Christ, to experience His love and have opportunity for Christian
growth, renewal and fellowship, and to enjoy the pleasures of nature
in a constructive Christian atmosphere.
A 12 person board is responsible for the operations, renting and
upkeep. An A-frame chapel was added and dedicated in 1980. The
facility is closely tied to Kogudus in Illinois and has hosted over
100 Kogudus retreats in its 40 years of operation.
An event is being planned on the afternoon of June 14, 2015, from 1- 4 p.m. to
celebrate the occasion. Musical, reflective, and spiritual numbers will be on
the program along with light refreshments. Ken Bradbury will play at 1:15 p.m.,
and John Cross shares reflections at 2:30 p.m. and Gary and Gail Marten will
share their message through song at 3 p.m. In honor of the 40th anniversary a
“Raising ‘4’ the Roof” campaign is being organized as a new roof is one of the
future updates needed.
An upcoming Kogudus retreat is scheduled for Youth on July 24-26. To register,
