Obituary
Leo Frederick Bender, 90, passed away at 8:20 P.M.
on June 21, 2015 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial
Hospital, in Lincoln.
Leo was born on January 9, 1925 in Sweetwater; the
son of Lawrence and Augusta Dora (Manus) Bender. He
was united in marriage to Norma Aileen White on
March 21, 1948, in San Jose. She preceded him in
death in 1986.
Surviving Leo are his children: Steven (Karen)
Bender of Williamsville, and Jan (Robert) Conn of
Bella Vista, Arkansas; sister: Dorothy (Don) Fink;
cousins: Nancy Bammann, Betty Lessen, Leonard Manus,
and Marjorie Douglas; and his six grandchildren; and
five great-grandchildren.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, his wife
Norma, his sister Florence, and his brother Charles.
Leo was a farmer; he worked for the city of Lincoln
street dept, Puritan water, Remington seed Co.,
Kickapoo Creek Park, and he participated with the
seasonal harvest. Leo was an avid sports fan
especially the Lincoln Railers Basketball team;
where he was a season ticket holder for 40 years.
Leo also was a frequent donor of blood to the
American Red Cross. Above all else, Leo loved his
family; he will be sorely missed by anyone fortunate
enough to have known him. |
A Memorial Service for Leo will be held at 1:30 p.m.
on Saturday June 27, 2015 at First United Methodist
Church with Rev. Michael Paulson officiating. A
visitation will take place an hour prior to the
service 12:30-1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial
donations may be made in Leo’s name to the First
United Methodist Church or to the Lincoln High
School Railers Basketball Association.
Services were entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home, Lincoln.
