NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES: Toyota Save-Mart 350 at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway.

TV: Sunday, June 28, 3 p.m. ET -- Fox Sports 1 (Radio: Performance Racing Network/SiriusXM Channel 90).

THEN AND NOW: After a week off, the Sprint Cup Series resumes with this weekend's race at the picturesque Sonoma Raceway, located about 40 miles north of San Francisco. ... This will be the first of two road course races on the Sprint Cup schedule this season. The other race is in early August at Watkins Glen International in New York. ... Carl Edwards is defending champion of this weekend's race. ... Kevin Harvick remains the points leader with a 15-point edge over No. 2-ranked Martin Truex Jr., and a 56-point edge over No. 3-ranked Martin Truex Jr. ... NASCAR parent company, International Speedway Corporation, is in discussions to purchase Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Salinas, Calif. Could a potential third road course race on the Sprint Cup schedule be in the offing? If ISC does purchase the track, it would be the second road course the company owns (also owns Watkins Glen International).

NASCAR XFINITY SERIES: The NASCAR Xfinity Series is off this weekend. The next race is the Subway Firecracker 250 on July 4 at Daytona International Speedway. ... Erik Jones won the most recent race, the Owens Corning AttiCat 300 at Chicagoland Speedway, this past Sunday, completing a weekend sweep that began with last Friday's Truck Series race at Iowa Speedway. ... Chris Buescher remains atop the points standings, holding a 29-point edge over No. 2-ranked Ty Dillon, and a 45-point lead over No. 3-ranked and defending series champion Chase Elliott, who remains winless after 14 races. ... After this weekend off, the Xfinity Series will compete for 16 weeks straight before the final off-weekend of the season.

NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES: The Camping World Truck Series is off this weekend and next weekend. The next race is the UNOH 225 on July 9 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Ky. ... Erik Jones began what became a weekend sweep by winning last Friday's American Ethanol 200 at Iowa Speedway, and then followed that up with a win in Sunday's Owens Corning AttiCat 300 Xfinity Series race at Chicagoland Speedway. ... Points leader Matt Crafton holds a 12-point edge over No. 2-ranked Tyler Reddick, and a 26-point margin over No. 3-ranked Erik Jones.

VERIZON INDYCAR SERIES: MAVTV 500, Auto Club Speedway; Fontana, Calif.

THEN AND NOW: After last weekend off, the IndyCar Series returns to action this Saturday afternoon in Southern California at the challenging and high-speed 2-mile Auto Club Speedway oval. ... This weekend's race was held last year on Aug. 30, but was moved up on the schedule this year. Tony Kanaan won last year's race. ... Josef Newgarden earned his first win of the season in the last IndyCar race two weeks ago at Toronto. Luca Filippi finished second, followed by Helio Castroneves. ... As he has since the first race of the season (which he won in St. Petersburg, Fla.), Juan Pablo Montoya remains No. 1 in the point standings. He leads Will Power by 27 points and Scott Dixon by 45 points.

NATIONAL HOT ROD ASSOCIATION MELLO YELLO DRAG RACING SERIES: The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series is off this weekend. ... The next race is the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals, July 2-5, at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. ... Richie Crampton (Top Fuel), Matt Hagan (Funny Car) and Erica Enders (Pro Stock) won this past Sunday in the finals of the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol (Tenn.) Dragway. ... Antron Brown remains atop the Top Fuel standings, but saw his 33-point lead over Schumacher drop to just 2 points after Bristol. Crampton is third in the standings (72 points back). In Funny Car, Matt Hagan increased his lead over Ron Capps from 61 to 87 points after Bristol, while No. 3-ranked John Force fell from 94 to 153 points behind Hagan. In Pro Stock, Enders regained the points lead and now leads No. 2-ranked Greg Anderson by 14 points, while No. 3-ranked Jason Line is a distant 136 points back.
