MLB Note - Los Angeles Angels Shoemaker, Matt
RHP Matt Shoemaker gave up two runs on seven hits and two walks in
six-plus innings but got the loss Friday against the Mariners. "I
thought Shoe started off with great velocity, really good command,"
Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "No doubt the fastball was in
good zones early. He pitched a really good ballgame for us, gave us
a chance to win. Maybe a couple pitches here and there where he
didn't quite get where he wanted to, especially to (Mariners SS
Brad) Miller, but we'll take that outing from Shoe."
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Los Angeles Angels Richards, Garrett
RHP Garrett Richards will start Saturday against the Mariners.
Richards has thrown a quality start in each of his past seven starts
at Angel Stadium, going back to last season. He is 3-2 with a 2.45
ERA in 14 career games (six starts) against Seattle.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Los Angeles Angels Navarro, Efren
INF/OF Efren Navarro started in left field and batted leadoff Friday
against Seattle. It was his third start in the leadoff spot, in
which he's hitting .083 (1 for 12) with an on-base percentage of
.083. He has batted leadoff, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth, and
played first base, left field, right field and designated hitter.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Los Angeles Angels Aybar, Erick
SS Erick Aybar (tight left hamstring) had to leave the June 26 game.
He is listed as day-to-day.
He has 11 hits in his last 27 at-bats, which follows a 1-for-27
slide. His 72 hits rank third best among shortstops in the American
League.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Los Angeles Angels Weaver, Jered
RHP Jered Weaver (inflamed hip) played light catch Friday. He's
expected back sometime in mid-July.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Seattle Mariners Walker, Taijuan
RHP Taijuan Walker gave up one run on seven hits in seven innings to
earn a victory over the Angels Friday night. Walker struck out six
and did not walk a batter. Walker has not walked a batter in his
last three starts. "Probably just trusting his stuff," Mariners C
Mike Zunino said when asked about Walker's improved control. "When
you can trust throwing in the zone and filling the strike zone up,
it helps in a variety of ways. Guys know you're going to be in the
strike zone and they're going to be swinging a little bit more. He's
getting a lot of quick outs, which helps his pitch count. He can
attack guys like that; hitters have to make the adjustment, not
him." The only run Walker allowed came on a first-inning home run by
CF Mike Trout.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Seattle Mariners Happ, J.A.
LHP J.A. Happ will start Saturday against the Angels. Happ has lost
each of his last three starts, compiling in ERA of 6.08. He is 0-3
with a 9.82 ERA in three career starts against the Angels.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Seattle Mariners Cano, Robinson
2B Robinson Cano is hitting .333 (10 for 30) with five runs, three
doubles, two home runs and five RBIs in his past eight games. He's
now hitting .246, and has been over .300 only once all season (.304
on April 25).
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Seattle Mariners Trumbo, Mark
OF Mark Trumbo played in his first game at Angel Stadium Friday
since he was traded by the Angels to the Diamondbacks following the
2013 season. "It's a fun day, sure," Trumbo said before taking the
field Friday. "There's a lot of emotions, but I'm excited I get a
chance to play in a familiar place. ... Being traded in the
offseason was a lot easier than in-season. It's not the easiest
thing in the world." Trumbo, who was traded from the Diamondbacks to
the Mariners June 3, went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk on
Friday.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Seattle Mariners Iwakuma, Hisashi
RHP Hisashi Iwakuma (strained lat muscle) will make his next rehab
start on Tuesday for Triple-A Tacoma against Las Vegas. The next
course of action will be determined after his Tuesday start.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - San Francisco Giants Cain, Matt
RHP Matt Cain came through his final injury-rehab start in good
shape Thursday night and likely will be activated from the disabled
list next week. He is tentatively scheduled to make his first start
of the season July 2 at Miami. Cain, who had been bothered by a
strained flexor tendon in his right arm, likely will replace RHP Tim
Hudson in the Giants rotation.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - San Francisco Giants Broadway, Michael
RHP Mike Broadway was promoted from Triple-A Sacramento for the
second time this season Friday, this time to replace LHP Jeremy
Affeldt, who was placed on the disabled list. Broadway made his
Giants debut during his earlier big-league stint, during which he
allowed just one run in 4 2/3 innings. He was far less effective
Friday night, giving up four hits and two runs in 1 2/3 innings in
the Giants' 8-6 loss to the Colorado Rockies.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Washington Nationals Scherzer, Max
RHP Max Scherzer, Friday's starter, dominated the Phillies with
eight innings of two-run ball to lead the Nationals to a 5-2 win.
After throwing a no-hitter and a one-hit shutout in his previous two
outings, Scherzer was perfect through 5 1/3 innings against the
Phillies before allowing a double. Over his last three starts,
Scherzer is 3-0 with a 0.70 ERA, 33 strikeouts and one walk. On the
season, he's 9-5 with a 1.79 ERA. "He was really good again,"
Nationals manager Matt Williams said postgame. "Complete comfort and
dominance."
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Washington Nationals Rendon, Anthony
2B Anthony Rendon was placed back on the 15-day disabled list before
Friday's game with a left quadriceps strain. Rendon missed the first
52 games of the season with a left knee sprain as well as a left
oblique strain. After a breakout season in 2014, Rendon has
struggled to stay healthy. He is hitting .290 with five RBIs in 18
games. The Nationals selected the contract of INF Emmanuel Burriss
from Triple-A Syracuse to fill Rendon's spot.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Washington Nationals Burriss, Emmanuel
INF Emmanuel Burriss had his contract selected to take the place of
2B Anthony Rendon on the roster. He was hitting .278 with three
homers for Syracuse.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Washington Nationals Harper, Bryce
OF Bryce Harper (right hamstring soreness) was not in the starting
lineup on Friday for the second straight game. According to manager
Matt Williams, Harper underwent an MRI and results were negative as
Harper is being considered day-to-day
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Washington Nationals Span, Denard
OF Denard Span was scratched before Friday's game because of a back
spasm. OF Matt den Dekker was inserted into the starting lineup to
take his place and slugged a two-run home run. Span came into the
game hitting .301 this season.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Washington Nationals Escobar, Yunel
3B Yunel Escobar left Friday's game after being hit by a pitch on
the left hand in the top of the first inning. He stayed in the game
to run the bases before being removed mid-inning. He is considered
day-to-day.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Washington Nationals Johnson, Reed
OF Reed Johnson (left calf strain) was transferred to the 60-day
disabled list on Friday. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list
April 29. He underwent surgery May 2 to repair a ruptured tendon. He
was on crutches in the Washington clubhouse before the May 8 game.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Philadelphia Phillies Morgan, Adam
LHP Adam Morgan is scheduled to start Saturday afternoon against the
Washington Nationals at Citizens Bank Park. Morgan is coming off his
major league debut in which he threw 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball
to beat the Cardinals. Morgan was called up from Triple-A Lehigh
Valley as the Phillies' rotation battles injury.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Philadelphia Phillies Harang, Aaron
RHP Aaron Harang, Friday's starter, allowed five runs (four earned)
in six innings to lose his seventh straight start, the longest
losing streak of his career. "I just made some dumb pitches," Harang
said. "You can't go out and give up three 0-2 hits in a game. I know
better than that. It's frustrating for myself to put (my teammates)
in that situation. For me, my standards, that's unacceptable." After
posting a 1.93 ERA in his first 10 starts, the 37-year-old has a
6.56 mark in his last six outings.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Philadelphia Phillies Revere, Ben
OF Ben Revere hit his first career pinch-hit home run in the
Phillies' 5-2 loss. Of his three career home runs, two have come
against the Washington Nationals. Revere was not in the starting
lineup despite entering with a .384 batting average since June 3,
third-best in the major leagues.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Philadelphia Phillies Brown, Domonic
OF Domonic Brown went 1-for-4 with an RBI double on Friday night,
delivering the first run against a Nationals starting pitcher in 48
innings. However, Brown made a baserunning blunder to end the game
and also committed an error in right field. "Two misplays out there
might have cost us the game," Brown said. "I've got to play better.
I'm trying to do whatever for my team. I make that play nine times
out of 10, but I've got to keep moving forward. I've got to make
that play."
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - St. Louis Cardinals Lackey, John
RHP John Lackey worked in and out of trouble all night, permitting
11 baserunners (eight hits, three walks) and just two runs. Lackey,
who walked three and fanned five, gave up just one hit in seven
at-bats with runners in scoring position, keeping St. Louis in the
game so that it could steal it at the end. Since absorbing a 10-run
pounding June 8 in Colorado, Lackey has allowed just five runs in
his last 22 innings.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - St. Louis Cardinals Wacha, Michael
RHP Michael Wacha will get the call Saturday night in the series'
middle game, looking to rebound from perhaps his worst start of the
season. Wacha took a pounding in a 9-2 loss Sunday at Philadelphia,
allowing five runs over five innings. It will be his first start of
the year against Chicago; he's 2-1 with a 3.20 ERA in four career
starts against the Cubs.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - St. Louis Cardinals Garcia, Jaime
LHP Jaime Garcia (groin cramp) is on schedule to make his next start
Tuesday night against the Chicago White Sox, according to general
manager John Mozeliak. Garcia left Wednesday night's 6-1 win in
Miami in the eighth inning after limping home on a base hit. He had
thrown just 90 pitches in seven innings and could have easily worked
through the eighth had he not been required to leave.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - St. Louis Cardinals Holliday, Matt
LF Matt Holliday (quad) will start running next week to accurately
gauge his progress from the injury that sidelined him June 8 at
Colorado. If Holliday shows the progress the Cardinals are looking
for, he could start a rehab assignment and perhaps return from the
15-day DL on the team's final road trip before the All-Star break.
Holliday is hitting .303 with three homers and 26 RBIs.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Arrieta, Jake
RHP Jake Arrieta probably deserved a better fate Friday night after
retiring 17 of the last 19 men he faced and leaving a 2-1 lead to
the bullpen, which coughed it up right away and then lost it in the
10th. Arrieta lowered his career ERA against St. Louis to 1.48,
third lowest among all pitchers who have started at least five games
against the Cardinals. Arrieta also singled in the sixth, his first
hit in 28 at-bats, dating back to last year.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Roach, Donn
RHP Donn Roach will be called up from Triple-A Iowa to start
Saturday night's game. A former San Diego farmhand, Roach is 7-1
with a 2.29 ERA in 14 starts this year, allowing just 91 baserunners
over 82 2/3 innings. Roach has fanned just 33 batters, but gets
almost all his outs via a sinker that induces numerous grounders. He
pitched in 16 games for the Padres last year, going 1-0 with a 4.75
ERA in 30 1/3 innings.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Bryant, Kris
3B Kris Bryant (flu-like symptoms) returned to the lineup Friday
night after departing Thursday's game with the Los Angeles Dodgers
before the third inning. Bryant batted third and went 1-for-4 with a
sacrifice fly in the seventh inning that gave Chicago a short-lived
lead. Since being recalled from Iowa on April 17, Bryant has started
every game.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Pittsburgh Pirates Guerra, Deolis
RHP Deolis Guerra was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to replace
RHP Rob Scahill (forearm) in the bullpen. Guerra was promoted to the
major league level for the first time in his 10-year professional
career.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Wada, Tsuyoshi
LHP Tsuyoshi Wada (shoulder) will have his turn in the rotation
skipped Saturday. Wada left Monday night's 4-2 win over the Los
Angeles Dodgers in the third inning with what was believed to be
cramping. He was able to play long-toss Wednesday, but apparently
couldn't recover in time to make the start. It's not known yet if
Wada will need to go on the 15-day DL.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Pittsburgh Pirates Mercer, Jordy
SS Jordy Mercer put together his second multi-hit game in a row
Friday, going 3-for-5 with two doubles that included the walk-off
winner. Mercer is hitting .257 in June and has raised average to
.225 after he hit .192 through the first two months of the season.
-----------------------------------------------
[to top of second column] |
MLB Note - Pittsburgh Pirates Melancon, Mark
RHP Mark Melancon walked one and struck out one batter in a
scoreless 10th inning to pick up his first victory of the 2015
season. Melancon has pitched scoreless outings in each of his last
21 appearances, dating back to May 11.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Pittsburgh Pirates McCutchen, Andrew
CF Andrew McCutchen went 2-for-4 with a double, walk and two runs
scored. McCutchen is hitting .329 (26-for-79) in June with seven
doubles, two home runs, 14 RBIs and 10 runs scored.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Pittsburgh Pirates Scahill, Rob
RHP Rob Scahill was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right
forearm tightness. Scahill gave up the game-winning home run to
Cincinnati 2B Brandon Phillips in Pittsburgh's 5-4, 13-inning loss
Thursday. RHP Deolis Guerra was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Pittsburgh Pirates Lambo, Andrew
1B/OF Andrew Lambo (plantar fasciitis) was moved to the 60-day
disabled list to create room for Guerra on the 40-man roster. Lambo
was placed on the disabled list May 4 and has been unable to begin
working at a potential return.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Atlanta Braves Marimon, Sugar Ray
RHP Sugar Ray Marimon was promoted from Triple-A Gwinnett as RHP
Brandon Cunniff was placed on the 15-day disabled list. Marimon is
in his third stint with the Braves this season and has allowed eight
runs in 8 1/3 innings this season.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Atlanta Braves Grilli, Jason
RHP Jason Grilli gave up the game-winning run on two hits and a walk
in 1/3 of an inning to fall to 2-4 on the season. Grilli, who saved
33 games for the Pirates in 2013, faced his former team for the
first time since he was traded to the Los Angeles Angels last year
after posting a 4.87 ERA and blowing four saves.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Atlanta Braves Uribe, Juan
3B Juan Uribe went 2-for-3 with a home run Friday, his fourth of the
season. He hit his third home run with Atlanta since he was acquired
by the Braves May 26, but his first since May 31.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Atlanta Braves Perez, Eury
CF Eury Perez went 2-for-5 Friday, the only player besides Uribe to
collect multiple hits. Perez started in the outfield for the seventh
time of the eight games he's played since he was recalled from
Triple-A Gwinnett June 18 and has hit .296 (8-for-27) in that span.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Atlanta Braves Cunniff, Brandon
RHP Brandon Cunniff was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a
right groin strain. Cunniff was pitching with pain for the previous
two weeks and aggravated the injury against Washington Thursday. RHP
Sugar Ray Marimon was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Atlanta Braves Perez, Williams
RHP Williams Perez was removed from Friday's game after he was hit
in the left foot with a line drive. He was placed in a walking boot
as a precaution and x-rays came back negative. He is questionable
for his next start.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Texas Rangers Gallardo, Yovani
RHP Yovani Gallardo will make his 16th start of the season Saturday
in the second game of a three-game series against the Toronto Blue
Jays Saturday. He is 3-0 with a 1.22 ERA in his past six starts. He
has not allowed an earned run in three of his past four starts and
enters Saturday with a string of 15 runless innings. He is 1-0 with
a 4.05 ERA in one career start against the Blue Jays when he was
with the Milwaukee Brewers. This will be his first start at Rogers
Centre.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Texas Rangers Fielder, Prince
DH Prince Fielder hit his 12th home run of the season and the 300th
of his career Friday in the first inning of the 12-2 loss to the
Toronto Blue Jays. Prince and his father, Cecil (319), each have at
least 300 career homers that makes them the second father-son
combination to do so, following Bobby (332) and Barry Bonds (762).
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Texas Rangers Rosales, Adam
INF Adam Rosales appeared as a pitcher for the first time in his
career Friday. He pitched the eighth inning of the 12-2 loss to the
Toronto Blue Jays and allowed a home run to OF/INF Danny Valencia,
who entered the game as a pinch hitter. "I just threw all straight
balls," Rosales said. "I didn't put anything on them."
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Texas Rangers Martinez, Nick
RHP Nick Martinez matched his career high when he allowed eight
earned runs in the 12-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. He allowed
nine runs overall and equaled his career high by allowing nine hits
(sixth time) in his six innings. He has thrown at least six innings
in 12 of his 15 starts this season. "I fell behind a lot of guys,"
he said. "The key part was falling behind. I was just trying to find
the strike zone (in the first inning)." The Blue Jays had a 7-2 lead
after three innings. "At that point it was just try to go as deep in
the game as you can and try not to leave the bullpen out to dry," he
said. "That's about the only good thing I did today."
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Texas Rangers Harrison, Matt
LHP Matt Harrison (back surgery) joined the Rangers in Toronto and
threw a bullpen on Friday. He will throw another light session
Sunday and then will continue his rehabilitation assignment with
Triple-A Round Rock with a start on Wednesday. He could rejoin the
Rangers on July 3.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Toronto Blue Jays Boyd, Matt
LHP Matt Boyd had his contract purchased from Triple-A Buffalo
Friday and he will make his major league debut Saturday against the
Texas Rangers in the second game of a three-game series at Rogers
Centre. The 24-year-old was 6-1 with a 1.10 earned-run average in 12
starts at Double-A New Hampshire and 1-1, 2.25 ERA, in two starts
with Buffalo. He was a sixth-round pick in the 2013 draft from
Oregon State. "He was dominating at Double A and a couple starts at
Triple A he's been really good," manager John Gibbons said. "So why
not? Give him a shot, let him run with it and see where it goes."
Boyd is filling the spot in the rotation that was occupied by RHP
Aaron Sanchez (strained right lat) before he went on the disabled
list and for three starts by RHP Scott Copeland, who was returned to
Buffalo after his third start. LHP Rob Rasmussen, who pitched the
ninth inning Friday in the 12-2 win over Texas, was optioned to
Buffalo to make room for Boyd.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Toronto Blue Jays Travis, Devon
2B Devon Travis (left shoulder inflammation) was 1-for-4 Friday in
the 12-2 win over Texas after he was reinstated from the disabled
list Friday and INF Munenori Kawasaki was optioned to Triple-A
Buffalo. Travis, 24, went on the disabled list May 17. "It was a
long six weeks for sure," he said. "Felt like six months." He batted
.186/.280/.209 with one RBI in going 8-for-43 in 11 minor league
rehabilitation games with Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A
Buffalo. Travis, who was obtained in an offseason trade with the
Detroit Tigers, started the season strong, batting .325/.393/.625
with six homers and 19 RBIs in April. His shoulder began to bother
him after it was hit by a bat-hop grounder and he batted
.185/.241/.315 with one homer and seven RBIs in May before going on
the DL. INF Ryan Goins filled in for him at second and now will
revert to a utility role. "Ryan did a great job for us but it's good
to see Devon back," manager John Gibbons said.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Toronto Blue Jays Kawasaki, Munenori
INF Munenori Kawasaki was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo Friday to
make room for 2B Devon Travis, who was reinstated from the disabled
list, where he had been since May 17 with inflammation in the left
shoulder. Kawasaki has been on the shuttle between Buffalo and
Toronto all season. In 12 games with the Blue Jays, he is batting
.200 (3-for-15) with one RBI.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Toronto Blue Jays Rasmussen, Rob
LHP Rob Rasmussen was returned to Triple-A Buffalo Friday to make
room for LHP Matt Boyd, who was called up to make the start Saturday
against the Texas Rangers. Rasmussen was called up from Buffalo
Monday and made one appearance for one inning, allowing one hit in
the ninth inning Friday of the 12-2 in over the Rangers. He has a
2.93 ERA in 21 games, including one start, at Buffalo.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Toronto Blue Jays Pillar, Kevin
OF Kevin Pillar was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the 12-2 win
over the Texas Rangers on Friday to extend his hitting streak a
career-best 10 games. He has hit safely in 18 of 22 games in June.
He is batting .444 on his hitting streak (16-for-36). He also made a
diving catch on a bloop by Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre in the sixth
inning.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Toronto Blue Jays Encarnacion, Edwin
1B/DH Edwin Encarnacion had two home runs, including his seventh
career grand slam, in the 12-2 win over the Texas Rangers on Friday.
It was his third multi-homer game of the season and the 20th of his
career. He was 3-for-5 with five RBIs on the game.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Colorado Rockies Miller, Justin
RHP Justin Miller returned to the minor leagues a changed man
Friday. After all, he had a major league win under his belt. Miller
was demoted to Triple-A Albuquerque so the club could activate RHP
Rafael Betancourt from the disabled list. Miller did well in his
brief stay with the Rockies, compiling a 2.08 ERA in four innings.
But the highlight had to be Thursday's one shutout inning, for which
he was rewarded with the win when the Rockies rallied from a late
deficit.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Colorado Rockies Betancourt, Rafael
RHP Rafael Betancourt was activated off the disabled list Friday and
immediately demonstrated he was ready for a return to action,
pitching a perfect seventh inning in the Rockies' 8-6 win over the
San Francisco Giants. The veteran right-hander hadn't pitched since
June 7, when he had to be treated for a sinus infection and vertigo.
After a one-inning stint in the minors, the Rockies deemed him fully
healthy and ready to resume his set-up duties.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Colorado Rockies Arenado, Nolan
3B Nolan Arenado had his second two-home run game in four days
Friday night during the Rockies' 8-6 win over the San Francisco
Giants. The first, a three-run shot, allowed him to extend his
best-in-the-bigs hitting streak to 13 games. The second, a solo
blast, capped a four-RBI performance that ran his season total to
64, three more than he'd totaled last season. The multi-homer game
was the fourth of his career.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Colorado Rockies Gonzalez, Carlos
RF Carlos Gonzalez finally got to swing a bat in game action Friday
night after having been relegated to late-game,
defensive-replacement status for three straight days. He blooped the
first pitch he saw into right-center field for a single, then
grounded a slow roller through a rotated infield in the next inning.
Little did he know, the best was still to come. After a hard-hit
single in the sixth inning, Gonzalez belted a go-ahead double in the
seventh and a triple in the ninth, completing the fourth five-hit
game of his career. He also had one May 6 of this season against
Texas.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Colorado Rockies De La Rosa, Jorge
LHP Jorge De La Rosa has been using a combination of bandages and
superglue to keep a cut on his left middle finger closed between
starts. But he has trouble gripping a baseball with a bandage on his
pitching hand, and Major League Baseball doesn't allow a pitcher to
take the mound with superglue on his finger, so it was only a matter
of time of time before the injury, which initially occurred on May
21, caused him problems in a game. That happened Thursday, when De
La Rosa had to be pulled in the sixth inning because he was bleeding
on the baseball. After closer examination Friday, the Rockies
believe the cut will be healed in the next four days, allowing the
left-hander to make his next scheduled start at Oakland.
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Colorado Rockies Rusin, Chris
LHP Chris Rusin pitched well for the Chicago Cubs in his only
previous visit to AT&T Park, where he will face the San Francisco
Giants on Saturday. The minor-league call-up surprised the Giants
that day, shutting them out on three hits over seven innings in a
1-0 win. He will be no mystery this time around, having already made
five starts for the Rockies this season. He has struggled in June
(7.25 ERA) and on the road (1.76 WHIP).
-----------------------------------------------
MLB Note - Colorado Rockies Bettis, Chad
RHP Chad Bettis allowed a home run for the third consecutive start
Friday night. The solo shot produced just one of three runs he
allowed in six innings, which was good enough to get him his fourth
win of the season. That's the great thing about pitching for the
Rockies. Even when you give up two runs to allow the opponent to tie
the game, as he did in the sixth inning Friday against the San
Francisco Giants, you know the offense can rebound in its very next
at-bat. Bettis managed to finish six innings for the sixth time in
his last nine starts.
